My friend had it when she was about 37 weeks, her doctor just put her on antibiotics. Not sure if you would be put on antibiotics at 17 weeks, but you could ring up your doctors clinic and ask what they would do in your situation.
Sorry I'm not much help.

I had it when I was 33 weeks pregnant with DS. DD got it, and when I rang my Mum up to ask if I'd had it, she couldn't remember (I'm the youngest of 7). Two weeks later, I got it. I was in hospital overnight because they thought it was meningitis, and I was very sick with it, but baby was born just fine. You're in your second trimester, so you should be ok, but ask your doctor anyway.

Hi babytoo,
I am a teacher and am currently 6 weeks preg. It is going around the school so thought I should investigate dangers. The midwife at the hospital said that if you were imune everything should be fine. From what I remember the danger period was from 13 to 20 weeks so if i were you I'd get straight to the hospital or doct to find out for sure. When I get a bit closer to that time i am gong to make sure that they test me to make sure I don't have to worry.
Hope all goes well. I didn't set out to scare you. Just passing on the info I have

So if you have had chicken pox when you were younger does that mean you are immune? I rang my doctors and they said not to worry as if I get it, it would be a mild case if I have already had it. I am just freaking though, have been reading some info on some websites and it doesnt sound like a very good thing to get during pregnancy! I keep itching myself but I think its all in my mind ?? I took my son out of kindy yesterday as they are saying everyone is getting it and even some teachers.....I didnt have to worry about this the first time around!

Hi,
I have the same problem here as well. At the preschool that my daughter and son attend there is chicken pox going around. My five year old daughter has had the chicken pox before but my three year old son has not. I am 33 weeks pregnant with my fifth.
I think I must be immune because this has happened to me before. When I was pregnant with my three year old son, my other three came down with the chicken pox within a matter of a couple of weeks. I ask my doctor then and he said that If I had chicken pox when I was younger I would be immune. I had a pretty bad dose back then so the doctor told me not to worry.

Hi, I had chicken pox as a child, then back as shingles when i was teenager. When I was 22 weeks pregnant i caught chicken pox again, the reasoning was that all my immunity went to the foetus making my immunity low. I spent a night in isolation at hospital and had more ultrasounds til he was born. At one day old they performed a hearing test as chicken pox can cause deafness. Quite a stressful end to the pregnancy but all turned out fine. He is 5 now and has not had chicken pox yet.
As of November the chicken pox vaccination will be included in the schedule in the NT , and will be free for all children. Not sure what the go is with other states
