Hey all
My little 8 month old boy was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and is currently having Elecare LCP formula, as well as basic solids. I want to start giving him things like custard, but not being able to use milk - I wondered if anyone knows of recipes to use with Elecare.

I've heard of a book called "Little Tommy Tucker was allergic to his supper. What shall he eat?" produced by Abbott (the company that makes/distributes it) so I called Abbot and they were unable to give me any recipes, just directed me to the US site, where I wasn't able to find anything either.

The only piece of info I found on cooking with Elecare, from the US Abbott site, was that it is unsuitable to be used in cooking as it should not be heated! (apparently the nutrients may break down, and it might also affect the taste).

Anyway this has left me feeling really unsure and I dont know if I can make him any food using elecare, nor do I have any recipes to use it anyway.

Are there any other Elecare users out there, and what have you done?

Thanks Heaps!! I'm really struggling to find things that I can feed him!

:fingerscrossed:

Ok I just tried an experiment to see what heating does to elecare. I boiled some in the pot to make sago and as soon as it started to boil, it smelt TERRIBLE. Ewwwwwwwww. So, it definetely changes the elecare when you heat it...!!

But that takes me back to square one. You can't make custard without heating milk!!

Anyone tried using Rice Milk? My bub eats rice cereal ok, and am thinking I could potentially make custard using rice milk......

Hi artnouveau

I have the Elecare book you're looking for... If you PM me your details I'll post it to you, provided you don't mind returning it to me once you've copied whatever you need from it (I still use it that's all) :)
