I am just past 7 weeks pregnant and due to have my first scan next week. Woke up this morning and went to the loo and when I wiped there was blood. It was brown (so hoping old blood). This is our first baby and it's been a long road to get even to this point...should I be worried? What should I do?

Its only 7am here and my doctor of course doesn't work Saturdays. My DH is away so I'm home by myself and really starting to freak out. :(

Oh you poor thing, it's horrible isn't it?

I also bled some brown blood at 7 weeks with DS1. As you say, it's old blood and for me it was nothing to worry about. If you see any fresh blood I would head to the ER, but unless that happens you're probably better off taking it easy at home until you can speak to your doctor.

Many hugs and sticky baby vibes.

Bleeding in pregnancy is very common. I know how easy it is to freak out because I've had lots this pregnancy. Brown blood usually indicates old blood. My OB wasn't concerned with my bleeding (some was quite substantial loss) unless I had pains. If you're worried though take it easy and call your dr when they open. Wishing you all the best for a trouble free pregnancy Xx

I know it's hard but try not to stress yet. I had brown spotting for about 4 days at one stage, but when I went to the scan there was a baby with a hearbeat.

If you do get worried and it increases with fresh blood and pain go to your ER:hugs:

I always had a bit of a bleed with all 4 of my pregnancies :fingerscrossed:

Brown blood is generally old blood. If it starts to turn pink/red or continues for a few days please talk to your care provider, especially if it's accompanied by cramping or discomfort. It is normal to have a little bleeding in early pregnancy, and quite common, But if you're stressed about it, you should talk to someone. Try to take it easy :hugs:

Thanks for all the replies ladies. I know I should be trying to stay calm. It's good to hear that so many people have experienced and everything has been ok.

I rang my obs after hours number and spoke with him. He wants me to go get more bloods done and a scan just to check on things. I have been experiencing some cramping on and off since yesterday so that adds to my paranoia.

Now it's a drama to try and get in to see a GP. Mine no longer works weekends and all the others don't seem to open until 8am..

Try to relax physically and mentally. Have a bath (not too warm) read a book, watch a funny video, whatever works for you to help you relax because it actually does make a big difference. Don't stress about having to wait til 8. You'll be waiting another 30 to 35 weeks for this bub. Just take it easy

like has been said brown blood is better than bright red, but for piece of mind I would get checked or youll worry all day.
Last night I had a speak of blood and freaked but I havnt had any since so I just left it, but if I see it again il be going in. mainly for my sanity.

I had bleeding (brown blood) at five weeks and seven weeks. The result of that pregnancy is now a very happy, healthy two and a half year old.

I was exactly the same as you - I was terrified each time I bled. Thankfully my dr was open on weekends and I was able to get in for an emergency scan.

Good luck today and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

:hugs: Summa! I would def get it checked out, even if it is brown blood. A blood test and a scan will put you back at ease rather than worrying all week until your next scan.

More :hugs: and hope you get a early appointment today.

Thanks ladies.

Managed to get into a medical centre at 8:45am so hopefully I won't have too much trouble getting a BT and scan done today.

Had a shower and now watching mindless TV to keep my mind off this.

It could be left over from where bubs implanted and now your body is just clearing it out.

I am almost 20 weeks and have had brown bleeding on and off since 5 weeks. I also had a massive red bleed at 8 weeks and passed big clots and thought for sure i had lost bubs but all is well. I was told i had a blood clot under where bubs had implanted which is what i passed when i had the big bleed but nobody can ever explain the brown bleeding.

My latest episode started xmas morning and lasted 8 days but once again no answers.

I know its not easy but try to relax, if your really concerned i would head to the hospital and they might be able to do a quick scan to make sure all is ok

Just saw GP. He was wonderful and took my bloods himself. He then got me an appointment for a scan at 11am. Hopefully I will see a healthy little blob and hear a heartbeat..

Good luck, hoping it is all good news for you. Try not to stress (easier said than done I know!) I had some brown spotting at 8 weeks on and off for a few days and I'm 35 weeks now with a squirmy healthy baby. The ED told me that spotting is quite common expecially around the time your period would usually be due. xx

Brown blood is usually ok. Redish blood and pain is a different matter.

With DD i had brown spotting and even passed a clot and everything was a-ok. and then this time i had brown spotting sometimes heavy sometimes not for about 4 weeks and a healthy bub this time too.

Hope the scan is all good! I'll be stalking to hear some news :hugs:

Thanks for all your thoughts ladies.

I had the scan and it's not looking good. There is a sac and a tiny heartbeat (only about 90 BPM) but I am only measuring 5w5d and I should be at around 7w3d. The sonographer did not want to say too much. On her report she wrote something about a large bleed in the endometrial cavity. She also wrote that the sac appears to move freely up and down in the fluid, changing in shape as it does. No idea what this means for our little one...:(

I am waiting to here from my ob when the BT results come through and I will read him the report and see what he thinks..

I can't help but think this is only the first of my bad news today.

I will still have everything crossed for you that this little bub will be very sticky.

I also had a look at it seems that a heart rate of 90 seems normal in the 5 week mark

What is a normal fetal heart rate? This is a question that you probably have from the first time you hear your baby's heart beat (http://pregnancy.about.com/od/prenatalcare/ss/listeningtobaby.htm). The truth is that a normal fetal heart rate changes during the stages of pregnancy.
At about 5 weeks gestation, your baby's heart begins to beat. At this point, a normal fetal heart rate is about the same heart rate as the mother's: about 80-85 beats per minute (BPM). From this point, it will increase its rate about 3 beats per minute per day during that first month.

Thank you for all the lovely thoughts. I spoke to my ob and the outlook is not looking good. My levels have dropped and he said scan report does not sound promising. Will have another BT on Tuesday and if levels still down then he says that means I am definitely miscarrying.

Managed to get a hold of my DH. His lovely supervisor got him the first flight out of Mackay tomorrow morning. My sister is here with me tonight.

I feel numb.

thank you for all your kind thoughts and support ladies.

I am not holding out much hope after the cramping I experienced in the early hours of the morning and the amount of blood I am losing. I don't think our little one is going to be able to hold on.

DH should be home soon..just holding on to that right now.
