View Full Version : Amber Teething Baltic Baby Necklace - what the??
hi Ladies
Tell me if i am just really dumb here - havent even given birth to my first baby yet - so really i could be missing something...
BUT - what the heck is up with the Amber Teething Baltic Necklace? Im really confused, i keep seeing it on ebay while i search for other baby goods.
Basically i thought that you werent supposed to give babies and children small parts in case they swallowed it an choked??
This necklace - in case you havent seen it or heard of it before - is basically just an amber beaded necklace... i assume used for teething babies to chew on?
Anyone think this is weird to give a baby / child?

They don't chew on them. They warm against the skin and are a natural pain relief. They are made as safe as possible for small kids. Each bead threaded separately. My two have them and I love them. The first sign I get that they are getting teeth is drool not screaming.
ah ok, thanks, but how do you stop them from grabbing them and chewing on it?
what if it broke?
sorry i obviously have no idea how they work... haha

my 6 month old has the bracelet and we put it on her ankle I don't like necklaces at a young age just incase she chokes herself but I loved the bracelet
my bub has worn hers since she was 12 weeks..she is now 16 months :)
like PP mentioned each bead is tied off separatly, and they are threaded on quite strong thread. You also need to make sure you choose one so its not too long, my DD wears a 13in which i find great, she never pulls at it, and have only ever seen her suck it once. I guess she is just used it it really as being a part of her ;)
They are too short for them to reach them to their mouth :) My 2 year old has his on right now, I really like them although we never had huuuge issues with teething but as soon as his molars started coming I grabbed one as I know they are meant to be quite painful. He wears it all the time, even to bed with no drama's. I prob wouldn't leave one on a small bub overnight though.
We get comments on it all the time, people think it's a 'surfy necklace' haha, When I tell them what it actually is I tend to get baffled looks :D
The other thing is, the beads are sooo small I can't imagine how a baby would choke on one anyway?

DH used to hate DD wearing one (thought she looked like a hippie.... Silly man) so I would wrap it around my wrist and fasten it like a bracelet... The beads would rub against her face and cheeks while I breastfed her :) It was a good alternative for those that are a little paranoid about strangulation or choking, though if DH weren't so silly about it I would keep it round her neck...
