At the moment I bath my DD every two days in the baby bath but she's not going to fit in it much longer! Do we progress to the adult bath from here? And is the only way to bath her to get in with her?

Hey Alana's Mum - I just noticed our bubs are 4 months apart to the day! How's it all going? Those first few months were really hard for me

At around Alana's age we moved Kade into the big bath because he was kicking one end of the baby bath with such force that he would hit his little head on the other end! We have a huge bath (great for pregnancy!) so most of the time either DH or I will have one with him, but we have also bought a bath seat from Target. It's a plastic reclined seat which holds bub in it, you still have to supervise at all times but it means you don't have to get in. From memory, it was around $20 - Kmart, Big W etc have them also.

Good luck!

I moved my son to the big bath at 6 weeks. He used one of the terry towelling bathing aids at first, and now he just lies in the bath. Once he sits unsupported, we have a bath seat for him.

Saying that though, about once a week DS will come into the bath with me!

I just moved my kids to the big bath, holding them the same way I did when they were in the baby bath (which was always in the big bath anyway). I didn't have to get in with them or anything, just means you have to kneel on the floor and lean over the edge a little.

We had DD in one of those terry towelling seats when she grew out of the baby bath, then she went into a Safety 1st bath seat, which I have found great. It says it should only be used up to 11 months, or when the bub starts trying to climb out of it, so not sure how much longer it's going to last! Although she has made absolutely no attempt thus far to climb out, so could be a while yet.

Ej has been bathed in the big bath since about 2 months old cause she used to kick of the end all the time in the baby bath. My BF usually helps out with bathing so we never used one of the bathing aids in it. Now she sits unsupported well she just sits in the bath with a steadying hand on her (in cause she might go back or forwards) while i bath her.

My little one didn't like the restriction of any of the bath seats we tries - borrowed thank goodess. From when we put him in the big bath at about 3 months, till now, at 9 months, he likes to just lie in the bath on his own. He only has about 5 cm of water and will spend endless amounts of time in there kicking, splashing and throwing water around. Quite often I only get him out because the water has gone incredibly cold. (He's also happy to stay there for a long while after I have pulled theplug and the bath is empty)

Thanks all for your replies. It looks like we will be buying a bath seat this weekend. The reason we need to move to the big bath is exactly the same as a couple of you mentioned - she's starting to kick and she hit her little head the other day :crying:. It gave her (and me) and big fright! I do like the idea of taking her in the bath with me, but not every 2 days, so we might do that once a week. ;)

I only bath DS every second night as well because of his eczema, but sometimes i take him in the shower with me. He loves it, the whole running water thing is a novelty for him. He also gets the whole skin to skin contact. He is also way to big for the baby bath, but he just sits up now, i get drenched but we dont have a big bath :crying: so it is either the baby bath or the laundry sink and i am not doing that cuz i worry about the metal being too cold for him lol.

we were given a bath seat so i use that. ds LOVES it! he loves being in the bath no matter he is in tho. he just doesnt stay still enough to not have the seat at the moment, when i get in with him he constantly wriggles everywhere and drinks the water and splashes me.

the bath seat makes splashing fun! he can now splash water around the whole bathroom instead of just in the bath! i end up soaked everytime!! but its great fun!

hehe...wait till he is 6yrs old, you will end up with 4 inches of water on the floor and 1 inch of water in the bath....they still love splashing at that age.

When DD grew out of her Baby Bath and we didn't have a big bath, she bathed in the laundry trough. To avoid the 'cold bum' and to stop bub slipping, buy one of the old fashoined rubber bath mats and put it in the bottom (for around $6 at Woolies).

Even with a big bath I think I would have used the trough as it used less water and was a lot easier on my back than bending over a big bath would have been.

hey there.. i thought i would add to this thread if i could.. :) My bub has just out grown the baby bath... and in the house where i live in at the moment... we dont really have a bath tub... so if i dont feel like having bub shower with me... i actually bath him in the kitchen sink... weird hey... my mother actually told me to bathe him there ... he sits up okay now and even though he is more restricted so to speak ... he loves it... Usually what i do is lay him on the towel on his change table... lather him up with soap and then using a cup rinse him off... he tries to eat the cup but its all good...

I use a baby seat with bubs too, just make sure I hold his hand to secure him. If we have had a busy day or need to give him a quick wash DH or I will bring him in the shower, he loves the water running over him!

If you have a bath ring, stick it on the floor in the shower and plonk him in there. I used to do it with Matthew and he absolutely loved it.
