View Full Version : baby shower after arrival...
Just wanted to get some opinions here. My partner and I would like to wait and have the baby shower once our little one arrives, as we feel this is a little more interesting espcially as we are having men there.... What are your thoughts??
We were thinking of combining in into a BBQ or something so that it is low key...
This is called a "Head Whetting" .... a basic reason to have a party and help the new "Mum" Feel normal again, new "Dad" be able to fluff the chest (the other reason Men used to sit and wait for the news at the local PUB before being allowed in to the ward/room) and for everyone to gather round and LOOK but not TOUCH the baby.
I wanted to have a head whetting but unfortunately it never got off the ground. Also I was told (hearsay completely) that it is tradition at a Head Whetting for the God parents to cross the babies palm with silver (a coin- never be short of money) and myrrh or frankinsence (the scent of kings - always be respected) But that was way back when.
Good luck and have fun. Regardless of whether it is "normal" or not .... as long as you and your partner want it .... make it YOUR normal!!!

I think your After idea is a nice one. And yeah, it probably would be far more interesting for the men folk :)
So do you think that maybe calling it a baby shower is inapproriate? Just feel a little funny with doing the baby shower beforehand and having everyone hand over tons of presents.. Would prefer it to be more low key and fun, sentimental and if they decide to bring gifts great..
I'd call it a "Welcome to the World" gathering/party/celebration :)
I'm not really one for 'baby showers' as such but your idea sounds wonderful :D

We had a "Welcome Ethan" party. We put on a BBQ and drinks (my DP was VERY excited!) for our friends/family. I've not had a baby shower with either babies, don't know why, just didn't!
It was lovely to have all involved afterwards when they also got to meet DS too.
