Just thought i'd let you all in on a problem i'm having! I have a lovable maternity bra which fits and is comfy but makes my boobs look horrible!
I've found other brands some in Big W and Target that are tshirt style maternity bra's that look like they would compliment my chest but only go up to a D cup!
This doesn't help me as i'm 19 weeks and already a DD!
The one that did come in a DD only came in white!? I only own black pink and green clothes so white would stick out like dogs balls!
Can anyone suggest a low cut, tshirt style maternity bra in BLACK!

Sorry for the hissy fit but i don't want to look like i'm wearing a big granny bra!

Sorry I can't help but i'd be really interested to find some too. Being a DD is not fun but luckily my size hasn't changed right through the pregnancy and now that i'm breastfeeding. I did get a nice black lace maternity bra in a DD from KMart though for around $20. Another thing to try are the crop top style feeding bra's. Not sure what brand it is, maybe someone else can help. I know that they also make feeding t-shirts. Hope that helps a little.

I 'm pretty sure when I was buying maternity bras, that I saw some black crop top type ones in David Jones and they were Elle Macpherson brand. They looked pretty comfy too. Also came in purple.
Might be worth a look.
Oh.sorry but I'm not sure what size they went up to.

Hi,
I'm a DD too and dreading what is going to happen when I have my baby in 5 weeks or so. I have bought a black maternity bra that gives a pretty good shape - it is a Bendon one and I got it at Myer. It isn't exactly a t-shirt style (it is lacy and probably not all that low cut but it is quite a nice bra and not as hideous as some of them). Good luck with your search.

I suggest going to David Jones for a fitting (maternity wear store suggested this), they really knew their stuff compared to Myer and Bras 'n' Things. The lady got me to try on all of them and then came and adjusted and asked me questions. I ended up with a Berlei one in a size that has lasted me from about 18 weeks to now (34 weeks) and hopefully to the end. The straps are comfortable and it gives a decent shape. They're not the cheapest but it's been well worth it considering the comfort factor and durability. Hope this helps.

Intimo (party plan) have a great black maternity bra that's made of lush, silky soft fabric & goes PAST a DD. It's around $55 from memory.

I'm a 16 DD & have practically given up on buying black bras. The other day Myer had a sale & I bought 2 x Berlei bras - sports bra style but maternity & they're really comfy but came in every colour BUT black! I also had a quick look through Big W (not holding my breath) for just a "cheapy" to get me through when my milk comes in. I found a "Hestia" brand in a cornflower blue that's really nice & supportive & smooth cup so it doesn't show under t-shirts - AND it was only $22.95!!! Might go back and get another as it's so comfy! PM me if you'd like the style number as it was the only style in that brand that I found went to a DD!

Also have you ever considered buying a couple of the right style/fitting maternity bra in white and dying them with fabric dye from Spotlight? White bras are SO much easier to find & have more variety to choose from. This is what I was thinking of doing just so I could have at least 1 black t-shirt bra!! Good luck!! :p

Totally know how you feel!

I was horrified when I went to buy my first maternity bra, there are some pretty average looking ones out there! I've found the most annoying thing is you can see them under all your clothes because they are so high cut, and I couldn't find a lower cut one anywhere.

However, I have found one which I think is the best out there, my sister in law swore by it (and she would be at least a DD so i'm pretty sure it comes in that size) so i knew it was the one to try.

Its the Elle McPherson Maternity Bar (I think its made by Bendon) and I highly reccomend it. It comes in purple, light greyish blue and black. It is really comfortable and gives you a nice round shape, rather than the pointy shape I found with others. It's kind of like wearing a crop top and its the first bra I have ever had that I don't want to rip off as soon as i walk in the door! It's a really nice fabric with a tiny bit of lace at the top (which isn't scratchy) and is by far the sexiest maternity bra I've seen (as sexy as they get anyway!!) I got mine in Myer but I'm sure DJ's have it as well.

Good luck!

Hi
I cheated and used a extender strap at the back of my normal bras for as long as I could, then also used it on some maternity bras. I just hated my bras digging into my belly which started immediately under my boobs

I wear lots of shelf singlets and that seems to keep the boobs happy. I'm a 16DD.

I would go and get a proper fitting at Myer or any other store that has a properly trained consultant.. yes, I know that they are downright hideous to look at - but I bought the most comfy bras that looked like they had more gurdles in them than the Harbour Bridge :D My husband used to joke that between my nana undies and my maternity bra that I was only showing about 2 cms of flesh... but they lasted awhile and were comfortable! Now that my girls have settled down alot I have been able to go for better looking ones.

I second ( or third ) the suggestion for the Elle MacPherson bra. I have the purple one - got it from Bras 'n' Things on special for about $30 - usually $54 or something. It is very comfy. I wear it to bed and the 'top boob' doesn't fall out when I lay on my side, like it does in other bras. If you can find them, definitely try them on. Don't know what size it goes up to though. Mine is 14D.

Hi there,

You may already know this, but I didn't for ages and it helped me heaps. I was a 10C and am now a 12D (and only 27wks along!! ) I'm not sure what size you are, but if you are now a 14DD - try looking for bras that are 16D.

I've only looked in Kmart and Big W so far, and Big W have some t-shirt maternity bra's that come in a few colours (I'm sure black is one of them), but I'm unsure of the size range.

Hope this helps,

Shae

I've seen those! Can you believe i read the packaging and they only go up to a D cup! CRAZY! I was soooo disapointed.

My boobs got to an E cup ( I know...enormous) by the end of my pregnancy. I went to myers and brought a really ugly, and expensive yet very comfortable couple of bras.

I would highly reccomend going for function over form in the case. You wont care how ugly it is if it is comfortable. :)

Goodluck finding something :)

I sympathise with you all- i am curently a size 16H- but should really be in a 14I- but seeing as no maternity bra goes that big i sewed on a few extra hooks to make my current bra's tighter! Is working at the moment!!!!

My bra's are by bendon on they only come in white or a horrible pinky fleshy colour! But i tried dying one of them and it came out surprisingly well- had to do it twice though- but you still can't wear lower cut tops- they are just too damn big!

What annoyed me when i was searching (and crying at the poor sales consultant at bra's n things) is that most maternity bra's only go to a d and a few go to dd- most people i've spoken too have been squeezing into these cup sizes- why don't the manufactures look at the clientele and start to design the bras to match- i mean maternity clothes are now pretty up to date and it would be nice to get a bra to wear discreetly under them!!!

You can get people to make bras specifically for you- but when i looked into it it was going to cost me about $90! Not cheap!!!
Best of luck in the search!!!

Im an F cup and 26 weeks pregnant - and i went maternity bra shopping today actually.

I picked up a Ultimate Convertable Maternity Bra in a black (i got mine in a 16F - and they had D cups also) for $39.95

http://tinypic.com/ezqxon.jpg

I also got a Elle McPherson Maternelle bra in black (the one with the lace at the top) for $54.95

http://tinypic.com/ezqxpl.jpg

And lastly a Loveable Maternity Bra (i got white but they had Tan and Black also) for $39.95 (Dont have a pic sorry)

I got all these at Bras N Things at Browns Plains (Grand Plaza) - i needed them badly and for $39 i was very impressed with the quality. I can never buy bras from K Mart or target and i can never get a cup higher than a D..... :(
But i really recommend these.

I (un)fortunately am only a C cup and I still find it hard to find a bra to FIT. I have trouble with underwire so have to go for a soft cup, but I HATE feeding bras which all the maternity ones seem to be. I'm not going to be feeding, not even going to try nd so i just need a bra that is COMFORTABLE and soft cup in a small size. I need the support desperately (after 2 kids and one on the way, I think I'm more stretch marks than flesh) but no idea where to get it.

Hi everyone,

I sorry if this sounds bad but I am so glad there are so many of you in the same position. I thought it was just me.

I was a 10B before I got pregnant now I am a 14D! with stretch marks

I went shopping for a bra last week as my underwire 10C bra was starting to get a little small!

I started off at Myers where I was shown the Nanna Bra's with the thickest straps I have ever seen! that squished my boobies back to a B cup! I know bra's are supposed to be comfortable not a fashion statement but I have a lot of mat clothes that have thin straps or no straps at all!

She then showed me a heap with Lace! I don't know about you ladies but my nipples are as sensitive as anything and having bloody lace rub on them all day was not going to be pleasent.

I then asked if they had any bras in my size with thinner straps, no lace, no underwire?? Well didn't I get the look from the shop attendant!!! She said no!

So in the end after going to target and Bras n Things I opted for some of my mother's bras in the end

I don't know about anyone else but I think the bra thing needs to be updated!

Sorry had a bad day that day :)

When my boobs ballooned and went supremely sensitive in the first trimester I had to stick with shelf tops and crop bras because anything remotely underwire hurt.

Now I'm wearing my old underwire 12C and a few others that still fit, but I've heard that you swell again when your milk comes in. I'm saving off buying a nursing bra till a couple weeks before bub is due.

I went on the bras n things website and they sell the Elle Maternity bra a few of you mentioned, so I'll probably go for that. Cotton and comfort are the top of the list for me.
