this will prob seem like a really stupid question but is there a way to get pregnant when you are still breastfeeding, not on the pill and only had one period in the 10 months since your baby was born?

i really want to fall pregnant again but its not happening.

I can't help you but will be interested to see if anyone can. I am in the same position as you. My son has just turned 10 months and I am keen to get pregnant again but haven't got my period back yet. When did you have the one period? I think I am going to have to completely stop breastfeeding to get mine back as there are no signs yet. I have been breastfeeding twice a day for the last 5 weeks but am about to cut down to once and then will stop when my son is about 11-12 months. It's annoying that you might have to sacrifice the breastfeeding to get pregnant isn't it? I wonder if there is a way to kick the ovualtion cycle back into gear? You are not alone.

i'm guessing that it would vary considerably from woman to woman and even from lactation to lactation.

depending on when that period was and how many feeds your baby is having over 24hrs and also how often your bubs feeds over night, maybe your fertility is returning.

night weaning can help fertility return for some. my af returned when ever my bubs started leeping longer at night. 9mths 1st time. 3mths the 2nd and still not happenning now 15mths. yes this baby still not sleeping through where the last one was very quickly!:rolleyes:

I was told that if I BF every 3 hours, around the clock, then I would be "covered" contraceptively. So if there's more than 3 hours between feeds, then technically you're able to get pregnant - but I think the more valid point is, you're able to start ovulating again.

Perhaps you could get one of those Maybe Baby thingo's, or an ovulation testing kit, and use that for a few months, before giving up BFing I mean. Just check to see if you're ovulating yet, before sacrificing the BFing. There are quite a few Bubhubbers who got pregnant while BFing, before their period returned, so it's definitely possible!:hugs:
