I remember reading somewhere taht green nappies weren't all that great for newborns. I read this after I had made the decision to go with Greens..........so now I need your opinions? Have you used them on a newborn? Are they ok? I really like the look of them and have heard so many good things about them on the hub so I was really dissapointed when I read this. I'd rather not buy a diffferent type of nappy jsut for that newborn stage iykwim! I don't mind a bit of bulk on a newborn, so long as they do the job!!

I havn't used it as a newborn nappy. But I would imagine they would just be really bulky thats all. No bulkier than a normal terry flat though.
When Ella was about 4 months I started collecting Greens & they worked fine, were just bulky thats all, though she is growing into the lovely now.
Seekrit... can you answer this Q?

I don't think you'll have the problem of them being too big, i read somewhere that you fold the front top bit down or something then fasten it
I probably made that statement, with Cobey in a couple of greens.. they were a bit big between the legs, and the rise was huge, but I've since realised that I'm not going to break Cobey if I do the nappy up tight, and so long as I don't stuff it i can fold the waist down a bit so it's not as big.
now, at 7 weeks, he's in greens as quick as i can wash them!! :)

Ok i actually asked Sasha about this the other day & this was her advice.
Okay, regarding newborns, have you seen the instructions for using the
nappies for newborns on the website? We now recommend using the nappies as a
pocket from birth, and just folding the top down to shorten the rise. This
works really well, as Ruth used them on her baby from the day he was
born, and lots of other mums have also had success using the nappies this
way from birth.
If you still plan to use them as a cover though, I would recommend a trimmer
fitting nappy, such as Cherubs Kiss Raphael. They are so cute and cheap !
Hope this helps :D
The risk you run using any pocket nappy from the newborn phase is that they don't have the double barrier of protection that you get from using a fitted nappy plus cover. This isn't a big deal if your bub does 'nice' poos but I remember DS doing awful, runny, explosive bf ones and I did really need a good quality fitted nappy. Ones like Tots Bots, Erica's hemp blends or Cherub's Kiss Raphaels are good because they have extra ruffly bits around the thighs to help with containment. You can always buy the Greens early and if they don't suit the newborn phase, there's no harm waiting til bubba is a bit bigger to use them.

While I don't really think I'd like the menconium phase poops all over my noice greens, they're keeping Cobey's poop contained rather well. Yesterday he did one of the 2-days-without-so-much-as-as-wet-fart poop in a brand-spanking-new nappy and it contained the 2 days of poop wonderfully! :D Then I rinsed the nappy, dry-pailed and threw it in the wash the next day - stain free!!

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like they should be fine. We're not even sure if we will have them straight away or not (might have to wait for the baby bonus$$). I'm completely fine with them being bulky- ds was in terry flats so his newborn bott was huge - gives you something to pat, pat, pat them off to sleep! I cannot wait to place my first order!!!!!
