Hello all!

I am currently mix feeding my 10 week old baby boy. I have been breastfeeding but because I decided to work son, I am training him to drink formula milk. I just started giving him NAN HA-1 this week, 4 oz a day as to observe if he has bad reactions to NAN. I observed that he has loose stool... is this normal?

I read and heard positive feedbacks about NAN HA and my doctor prescribed it for my son since he has certain sensitivities (he experiences lots of allergy). I would like to know how good or how bad NAN HA formula milk to your babies. Thanks.

Hi there!

After not being able to breast feed (believe we tried - very long story!!!) we put our son on Nan 1HA from about 2weeks old and he has thrived! He is now 5 months old and continues to thrive on it! As for his stools he has never had firm ones so to speak... it has always been a smooth paste which I am assured this is normal... (he actually did one while he was getting a check up from the CHN so I got to show her and that was when she said it was a normal motion) and he has never suffered with constipation! Is regular as clock work!

When deciding on the formula I rang the hospital I delivered him at to speak to the lactation consultant who was trying to help me and she recommended the NAN over the S26 and we also spoke to a VERY good friend of ours who is a pharamcist cause we knew she would be upfront with us (some pharmacys will try to sell you what ever they have in stock if you know what I mean!) and she also recommended the Nan...

Like i say with everything "if in doubt ask to your local Child Health Nurse"! :)

Hi there I hwas unable to breast feed my bub and started her on s26 gold and had a lot of problems she's been on Nan HA1 since she was a month old and has thrived on it pasty to funny stools are quite normal as this formula is easy to digest and move through thier systems a lot better!!! My ped. recommended it as it is the closest formula on the market to breast milk! - Hope this helps!

I both breastfed and formula fed, and I chose Nan HA cause that was what they used at the hospital, I figured if they use it then it has to be good!! Brayden has never been constipated or had any troubles with it!!! :D

Hi,
We also use Nan 1ha gold. Bubs had it in the hospital so we thought it was a good idea to use the same. He has had no problems, does poos very regularly and is happy and healthy!
P.S I did notice when he went from breastfeeding to formula feeding his poos were very different but apparently this is normal!
Cheers

thanks for your replies. i really appreciate it. it makes me feel a lot better.

my mother-in-law wants (mildly forcing me!) me to give my son S26 because it is the milk she gave to my husband when he was still a baby. She says the baby will grow faster... i hope she stops pestering me because right now, the only person i would listen to is the ped.

According to my lactation consultant S26 is so overrated! Plus not to mention has sugar in it... and is the most expensive brand on the market!

I think you are doing the right thing by listening to your doctor.

Hi Belinda

re the colour of the stool, yes they are a funny greeny black colour and sticky. I was a little frightened at first, but she actually did one when we were at the mid wife and she said it was fine. Re allergies etc, we started on Karicare gold because that was what was recommended by friends who had babies, when I had to stop breastfeeding, Jessica came out in a horrible rash. Midwife recommended Nan Ha

Ryan's poos were the same, lovely dark green avocado colour!! I too was assured by my CHN that this was normal. I have had to just over the weekend put him on a lactose free milk (due to a bad bout of gastro) for 6 weeks and was told Karicare Delact was the best one as it didn't contain any sugar! So far so good but i can't wait for the 6 weeks to be up so I can get him back onto the Nan HA!!!

I am presently combination feeding my 6 month old and have done so since he was 8 weeks old. I found that Nan made him really constipated with green poo ( from the high iron content). he then went to S26 alpha gold and has been fine. I guess each baby is different.

like most of us, our digestive systems are different! babies will be the same! It is all really trial and error, we were just lucky to have had success on the first attempt!

Hi!

I had so much trouble with breastfeeding that my CHN suggested putting my dd onto Nan Gold when she 1wk old. She's 10mths now & we've never had any problems with it.

In fact once I switched to demand feeding, she started sleeping through the night. Not that I did - so used to getting up to her that I still do it now! :D

The hospital , the doctor and the chemist all recommended NAN gold. We have bot got any problems so far. The only problem is that the chemist are often running low in stock - or even no stock at all. I get mine for about 14.99 a can. Actually can some one tell me where I can get NAN 2. Myu son is turning 6 months and we are trying to stock up the next formula

My CHN said that if they are doing well ong the NAN Gold 1 you don't really need to go up to the Gols two unless you start having issues with weight ect.

What sort of weight issues do you mean?

I have had ryan on the 2HA for awhile now and still no problems...

You can buy it from most supermarkets... Ishop at Bilo & Woolies and get it with my groceries - I have found that only a select few of chemists actually stock it and the ones that do I have found charge more for the can! At the supermarkets I usually pay anywhere from $17.99 (on special) to $19. Although I did spy a chemist (admittedly while i lived in Newcastle) that did often have it on special for the $14.99 but it would take me over 40 minutes to get there so therefore the special wasn't really a special iykwim

How do I get the awful smell of the NAN formula out of my baby's clothes and bibs? The laundry detergent does not seem to remove it even if I soak the items straight after feeding...

My son was on both Nan 1 HA Gold and Nan 2 HA Gold. Poo was just as all of you described but his ped told us that was normal. Weird color but very regular which is a good thing! Nan HA is recommended especially if you have a strong family history of allergies. That is why my son was put on it. But he just turned 12 months 4 days ago and I've slowly introduced fresh cow's milk and he doesn't have any reactions to it so :smiliedance: :smiliedance: :smiliedance:

Woolies and Franklins have both 1 and 2. Some chemists stock it but I found it to be more expensive. If they don't have it, you can order it but again, that costs more.

I must say I never found the smell of Nan to be bad. Nan fan here

 same here - we continued using it when DS2 came home from hospital. We have tried others but Nan 1Ha gold seems to work for him. And yep, poo has always been a bit weird but that's normal.
