I'm posting this here, because I figure APs are more likely to have had this problem as I have it mainly when we're co-sleeping.

We co-sleep with our DD (10 months on Saturday) and our usual go-to-sleep routine is to have a feed and then we lie in bed together while she goes to sleep. Sometimes she wants me to cuddle her, but more often than not she is happy to just lie beside me with me humming to her.

But no matter which one she feels like, she always has to be touching my face. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with this if she was gentle, but unfortunately she doesn't know her own strength and ends up pulling and scratching my face. And she has a particularly preoccupation with my mouth and is constantly pulling my lips, and even scratching my gums with her nails. I have tried putting my hand over my mouth, or just holding her hands near my face, but she's not happy unless she's mauling me, basically. It's slightly more bareable when I've managed to cut her nails, but she doesn't let me do that very often, and you can't usually cut them short enough anyway.

Has anyone else had this problem? I really don't mind her touching my face. In fact, it's kind of sweet, but I end up with really sore lips and gums

My DD is 18 months and has always done it too. The amount of scratches i have on my face each day is amazing. And all i can put it down to is that she is fascintated by the geography of our faces. Especially my teeth now that she has some

LOL...its funny the things they do. I think all bubs have a fascination with facial features. My dd is always trying to stick her fingers in my mouth! I wouldn't mind if they weren't covered in sticky goo 90% of the time.

Or if they hadn't just been shoved up my nose in the previous mauling exercise

Hair, face, mouth, nose - and none of it gentle!!

Last night at 1am, DD (after lying in my arms happy & quiet for the best part of an hour) suddenly lashed out at me like a cat! Scratched all my mouth and nose. Man it hurt!!
