How often should a formula fed baby poo?

Sorry, if TMI, but on BF Oliver would usually go about 5-7 days then do one.....

Now he's FF I thought it would be every day or 2.....but its been 4 days since the last ummm motion! I worry that he might be constipated?

Charlie is formula fed and she does one pooh a day (usually in the morning).

jacko has one a day the midwife told me that just because the haven't had one for 5 or more days doesnt mean that they are consitpaited, but if u think they are try brown suger and cool boiled water

My CHN told me that one a day is pretty normal, but that some babies can do more than one, while others can poo once every three days. My FF DS poos twice a day. The condition of Oliver's poo might give you an indication of whether he is constipated. It should be soft, like play-doh, not hard like pebbles.

Kat, When I had DS the midwife told us that it was normal for them to have "one a day, or one every 10 days", anything in between was normal.

as Hazel said, the consistency of the poo is what's important, not how often they "go". also pay attention to how much trouble your bub has when he does do a poo. If it's effortless, no problem. If he seems to have pain and difficulty doing it there could be a problem too.

Also, keep in mind that runny (diarrea type) poos can be a sign of constipation as well.

Jack is every second day. We did have problems in the beginning, try some boiled water if he seems to be having probs.

He STILL hasnt gone, but doesnt seem to be worried, not straining or grunting, his tummy isnt hard! Its 8 days!!! MY GOODNESS! When he was breast fed he was often this long, but I just worry!

He's been having boiled water after his evening feed. He often drinks 230ml formula and still wants more, so Ive been giving him boiled water then.....usually has about 50 ml or so!

Hi Mischief,

My DS has been constipated over the last 36 hours. I can tell because he's had no poos (usually two a day), and he won't take his bottle, and just keeps straining and crying, and going red in the face. It was so bad last night (he wouldn't settle), we rang the CHN line, and they recommended 1ml of prune juice from a dripper (which we gave him). He's pooed twice since!!

I'll give him another dose tonight, just to make sure it's moved everything. Just an idea if the extra water doesn't work (which it didn't for my DS). The other thing the CHN recommended was a clockwise tummy massage.
