Hi,
I need to get a Prenatal Paternity test done and im wondering if anyone has information on risks involved and where i can get it done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, im under a great deal of stress and i think this is the only way to releive the arguments.

Cheers.

I would say the only way to do such is via an Amniocentesis, which (I believe) extracts some DNA in order to check for genetic diseases.. commonly performed after a nuchal shows abnormalities. HOWEVER I don't know that anywhere would do paternal testing.. you'd have to speak about that with your doctor/OB (who'd have to refer you for the amnio)

With the amnio, such risks include miscarriage... (it's a gigantic needle, i believe) but I'm not sure of any others.

Good luck with it all.

I agree with nikki. The amnio is a HUGE needle, it's like 20cm long and pretty thick, (very scary looking indeed) and I don't think they will perform it on you now being 5 months.
I think the only option would be to wait until bub is born, then it is a simple swab of the mouth, and no risk to you or baby.
Good luck with it all.

Here is some info for you

Paternity - to find out if the alleged father is actually the biological father of the child. This can be done once the baby is born, or while the baby is still in utero. The latter requires a sample of amniotic fluid, since it is impossible to take a blood sample from a foetus. Prenatal paternity testing carries some risk (such as infection) because it is an invasive procedure.

And this place does it so there is information on their site as well

Sorry that you have to consider this. All the best

Smart kid- The first symptom is usually the absence of your period, although sometimes it can bew lighter than usual. Other common symptoms are sore boobs, needing to wee a lot, tiredness and nausea. Have you missed a period? The best way to know for sure if your pregnant is to have a home test and go from there.

Ange,
How did you go?
I have had 2 amnios and both have had to test DNA (which is what they will test for paternity)
Be aware that it isn't cheap, cost me over $800 to have my 2nd one done as I was private, first one was free when I was public, but mine were deemed necessary for feotus health reasons (we needed to detmine their blood make up).
Good luck, I was in your situation with my first born but didn't have paternity testing done until she was 8 months old and her father didn't want to pay child support, so it was done through the courts then (and free). It is very stressful when pg and had I had the money I probably would have done it then, would have saved me allot of worry etc.....

Hi Mum of 4,
I have decided not to get it done. Myself and the possible father ( 99% sure its his bub) have decided that we dont want the risk.

Thanks for your advice.
