why make one when you can buy one from target or big W for only $10.
they are usually made from nylon/polester - or swimsuit material.

The key is having snug waist and legs, to contain poo. Swim nappies (even disposable ones) don't absorb wee, it is the poo that you need to keep in. Gentle elastic, or an elastic drawstring around each opening would work, make sure you use swimwear elastic though.

I'd agree with Billie&Beth. Lycra is expensive (though you probably wouldn't need much to cover a baby's butt!) and a pain to sew... Would be easier (and probably cheaper) to get one from Target or Big W.
Then you'd be able to take a close look at how they are made and decide then if its' worth it.

Apparently you can use pocket nappies with the stuffing removed - I haven't tried it but if you're making some anyway you could give it a go!
Some people use pocket nappies as a swim nappy but I personally wouldn't waste the PUL in a chlorinated pool (it destroys PUL). As a PP said, you don't need a swim nappy to absorb wee, just contain poo so I'd stick to a lycra swimsuit type material. The Motherease Swim Nappy (which is what we use) has a lycra outer and an inner layer of fine mesh to help catch any accidents.
