Have just gotten back from my developmently delayed 3 year olds visit with the opthamologist (sp??) and he is to get glasses now. Only problem is that he does not cope at all well with having anything on that he sees as out of the norm, i.e. a hat, sunglasses, bandaids, etc, and will fight to take it off asap. So the big question is "how to keep them on"???
Any advice will be gladly accepted:yes:

I had glasses from a very early age, and mum used to encourage us to wear them by pointing out famous people who wore glasses (not sure which famous people your son would identify with, but Superman wore glasses as Clark Kent). Also, I chose my own frames so I felt that the glasses were a bit more of a choice than they were. At the time I got the glasses, Mum also bought us a small present (something little like a cool pencil case etc). Good luck with everything, hopefully your son will take to the glasses well.:fingerscrossed:

Can I?

I was going to suggest the same thing Hazel. What about tracking down a copy of "Adventures of Monty, dog who wears glasses" by Colin West? It would be pretty age appropriate and is a book with about 3 short stories and line drawings of Monty.

Make a big fuss about how special and important they are and how nice he looks in them. Have a glasses party, and everyone wear glasses. I don't know. I dread to think what would happen if my 4 year old had to get glasses, he is a bit the same.

Good luck with it

I have seen young kids with glasses on and from the earwig to the other ear wig is a peice of elastic. you could get some clear elastic or get them to paint the elastic any way they want

Thanks for the replies, I suspect I may have to try every single suggestion here by the end of the first week:laughing:
:fingerscrossed: he is better with them than I give him credit for...
