View Full Version : naming day help
We've been invited to a naming day and have no idea what's involved. What do we wear? Is it formal/smart casual? Do we bring a gift, if so what is appropriate? Sorry, for all the questions. If it were a baptism I would be ok but a naming day has thrown me! It is for a really good friend's baby boy.
TIA :D

Hi, we just had Livs naming day last week. The "preferred" dress was smart casual and people did bring gifts as it was a combined birthday party. A nice gift to bring would be a letter that the child can open when he is older and a photo to go with it. I have asked a few people to do this for us and it was a winner.

All my kids had naming ceremonies, and people came dressed much as they would for any kind of party, or christening in a church. We were given gifts much they same as you would get for a christening or baptism. Photo frames, blankets, handprint sets, clothes, ornaments, moneyboxes, etc.

I think it depends on where its held. I went to a naming day BBQ at a park. It was a lunchtime thing and I wore jeans and a top. I gave a $50 Myer Voucher with a nice card. Seeing its a really good friend maybe a nice gift is more appropriate.
