My DS is 7 months old and breastfed and so far I'm yet to have a period (yay :) ). The last couple of days I've had a feeling like I'm getting my period but nothing has come of it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this while breasfeeding?? a couple of other times i have had that nagging feeling in my stomach and though here it comes but it was over before i knew it. This time it has been on and off for about 2 days. In the past, i would feel like this then get my period easily within 24 hours, but I'm presuming things like that can change once you have had a baby?? Any ideas?? I also have a niggling thought in the back of my mind that i could be pregnant (could just be me getting clucky...wishful thinking!)- is this a symptom, i can't rememeber!

Hi! Ive had the same problem!
My DD is 8 months old and im yet to have my period. (not that im complaining!!)
I could have sworn I was gettting my period a few weeks ago, but alas - It never came! I thought maybe it was ovulation cramps (which I used to get occasionally), but its been over 2 weeks and I havent got them yet. I had a feeling that I might be pregnant (I had the same sort of cramps when I first fell pg with my daughter), but the test I did was negative. It would be a bit wierd if I was, considering I am on the mini-pill and I am still breastfeeding. (although my DD has cut back, and she has 3 solid meals a day).
If you're unsure, do a test! Good Luck! :)

I was actually just about to post almost exactly the same thread!!!

My daughter is 5 months old now and I have never really fully breast fed her. From about 11 days old, she has had one top up feed of formula almost every day. About 6 weeks ago, I dropped two BFs and replaced them with formula feeds as I was starting back at full time work. I still BF at 7am and 7pm. She also has several meals of solid food throughout the day and two bottles.

I am still yet to get a period as well. A few weeks back I had some cramping, and also thought Oh goody! Here it comes again! But also, nothing eventuated. It has crossed my mind that maybe I was pregnant again . . . I stopped taking the mini pill as I am useless at remembering to take it everyday, let alone at the same time everyday as well (hence the arrival of my gorgeous daughter)! However, it would be a nearon miracle if I was pregnant - the few times we have had sex since Kelsie came along has ALWAYS been with condoms (even when I was on the pill).

I was wondering when it was going to return??? How long after stopping BF does it normally return???

Hi, I'm the same. Spencer is nearly 8 months and my period has yet to return. I've had spotting and cramps over the past month but nothing has eventuated. I've also been feeling sick which worries me re being pregnant again. I'm so not ready to be preggers again. There's not much info about the return of your period in all the baby books.

I stopped breastfeeding and espressing 2.5 months ago and had cramps and spotting on and off during that time and then last friday - exactly 7 months to the date that Tayla was born, WHAMMO!

At first I thought here we go again, just the light cramps and spotting but then by saturday night I was in bed in pain and in bed all day sunday feeling sorry for myself. It was the heaviest flow I have had in years too!

I am not on any pill but after the past week I think I will go back on it again! :p

I am not much help as I haven't had a period for over three years - one pregnancy, 11 months of breastfeeding, another pregnancy and so far 11 months of breast feeding.....heavens knows what it will be like when it does return.

What I can say is that when I started to drop back my feeds with DD1 from 6 to 3 I had some pain a couple of weeks later and thought it might be ovulation pain, but it turned out it was implantation pains. I had some low level cramping and thought I might be getting a period but then remembered that this was the same feeling I had with early pregnancy, did a test and the result is currently lying in her cot resisting going to sleep and talking to her bears!

So keep us informed one way or another!

You ladies are so lucky. I fully breastfeed MJ and have been bleeding every 2 weeks since she was 1month old :( I'm so sick of it.

While you are breastfeeding you can ovulate but not have a period. Not quite sure how the body works that little dilemma out but it could be possible that it was pains due to ovulation!

Reading everyone's thoughts about the possibility of being pregnant, got me a little concerned myself . . . like I said, it would have to be a miracle!! But I too did a test and the result was negative (Thank goodness!!)

I really thought that since I was hardly breastfeeding, that it would have returned by now??

I was wondering when my period would return and when DD was 6 and half weeks it did and with a vengence! It was the heaviest flow I have ever had, it came on really suddenly and left the same way four days later! DD, who is fully breastfed was a little strange during each feed - a bit grizzly and pulled off quite a lot, I think that it affected the tast of my milk some how :( . But as soon as my period finished she was back to her normal self. It will be interesting to see if my period returns regularly each month.
