View Full Version : Is it safe to have hair foils done...
I am going to my brother's wedding in October and will hopefully be three months pregnant then. Am wondering if it's safe to have my hair foils done the week before otherwise I'm going to have awful regrowth!! Any suggestions? Should I talk to my hair dresser? What is she has no idea?

The chemicals hairdressers use are a lot stronger than what you buy from the supermarket in a packet, so I would be reluctant to get it done. I totally understand where you are coming from as I had the same situation where I went to a wedding when I was pregnant last year, I was too scared to dye my hair, so I went, regrowth and all and regretted it majorly! There isn't likely to be a problem, it's all a bit of paranoia on my behalf, but as i mentioned maybe try to do it yourself with a softer chemical base??

I had mine done when I was about 6mths pregnant. Don't you just love that regrowth.
I just worked out that I'm going to be just over 11 weeks when I get it done!! Decisions decisions! Not sure I'm brave enough to do it myself. Maybe there's a hairdresser that uses natural products? Off to do some research.

I had mine done when i was about 9 weeks Pg - I didn't realise it might cause a problem. I spoke to my Obs about it and she didn't have an issue with it. The only thing I can say though is that make sure you are over your morning sickness (if you get it) I found that I felt terrible while having it done and then came home and had to wash my hair twice as I couldn't stand the smell of the chemicals/products on my hair - they made me :barf:

Just make sure you are sitting in a well-ventilated area. And make sure they know that you are pregnant!
I still do my hair all the time :)

Theres a place near me, i've never been there though so can't truely reccomend them, but at least you could call and ask: Organic Knots Chemical Free Hairdressing, 111 Barkly St, Saint Kilda. ph: 9525 4913
Its very old-skool st kilda looking, so don't be afraid of the dreadlocked employees
I have had foils throughout both pg. First time this pg was at 10 weeks. No problems as far as I'm aware.

I had my hair coloured numerous times throughout my pregnancy (wasnt aware), had strong bleaching to remove the black from my hair etc, and my son came out nice and healthy........and very blonde...hhhhhhhmmmmmmmm...I wonder....nah just kidding, Im not that stupid:laughing:
I was told by my doctor, that alot of the warnings are to basically cover the companies @rses in case anything happens to your unborn child after you using the product, you can not blame the company as they have issued a warning on their product etc.......
So I dont really see a problem with it, as poshBecks said, just dont drink it.........
But when it comes down to it, the decision the choice is up to you....

Yes, Its fine. You can even have on scalp tints, the only recommendation from the rwhm is that you avoid lots of things including haircolour in the first 3 months. But foils are when the hair is coated with colour and wraped in foil, so you don't actually have any conact witht the colour so it cannot absorb. Aside from that there is no evidence that actually sugests taht it causes problems in pregnancy, it is only a theory. I am a hairdresser and coloured my hair on scalp 3 times in my 1st pg and couldn't have gone without!
Apparently foils are okay as they don't touch the scalp (like a full normal colour does). I just got my foils done today! I normally go the full head of dye but decided against it, even though I have terrible greys. At least the foils blend them. Hairdresser said it was safe and my sister did research on it when she was pregnant last year and found the same thing.
