How long do you need to boil water for?

Ok, that sounds ridiculous. I'll try again. When can I stop using boiled water in bottles and start using tap water?

Ds is nearly 8 months.

Do you trust the city's water supply?
If you were from Sydney I would say FOR EVER!!! I NEVER gave my pet birds tap water when living in Sydney.........

I'm from melbourne and it tastes ok, but there could be anything in it. Surely it couldn't be worse than soapy bathwater that ds sucks from the facewasher........although he doesn't drink bottles of that.

I'll be boiling until DD is at least 12 months old. I have read that Melbourne has some of the best tap water in Australia. I'll be doing the boil as we're on bore water.

i went 2 the mchn 4 Kayden's 10mth check up the other day & she said i could stop boiling water & sterilising as soon as he turns 12mths (which i will b doing).. having said that i know a few people that don't boil or sterilise & their bubs are the same age as ds. i think its best to err on the side of caution. :D

DD1 boiled till 10 months.

DDs2 & 3 till 12 months.

After 12 months, their immune systems are better developed to cope with any nasties in the tap water.

The kettle is always on the boil in our house so if it is good enough for our coffee, it is good enough for bub's milk/water.

I stopped sterilising and boiling at 9 to 10 months, though my CHN told me there was no need to sterilise at all from birth. DD was really mobile at around 8 months and I probably could have stopped boiling then, when she was picking dog hair up off the floor, but it was a habit and routine.
