Hi ladies,
Just wondering if any of you who have bubs with allergies/intolerances have eliminated peanuts, dairy etc from your diet when you had other bubs? My DS1 had CMPI and is now fine. My DS2 appears to have a number of intolerances and reflux still at 13months. We are thinking of ttc next year, and i am wondering if it would be worthwhile to exclude dairy, soy and nuts while pregnant.
Would love to hear your experiences.

Our allergist never recommended eliminating anything while pregnant other than the usual risks

It would be worth seeing your specialist for advice though

I'd be speaking to your specialist.

If your DS has reflux at 13 months, I'd say it's more than just run of the mill reflux & heading toward GORD.

My DD was lactose intollerant until just recently and they think it was because i didnt have dairy or lactose through pregnancy.....

Speak to a specialist...

I would not reccomend it based on my experiences and this pregnancy I have stayed on everything despite the consequences for me in the the hope that it helps this bub to not be LI.

Good luck.

I'll be asking my DD's paed GI the same questions at her next appt in Feb. I was thinking about cutting out dairy/soy for at least a few weeks before due date so there's no traces in my system before breastfeeding starts. I'll let you know what he says.

Thanks for the responses ladies. I would definitely consult a doctor before doing so. And if I was to cut out dairy I would make sure i still took a calcium supplement. When I was pregnant with DS1 I did not consume much dairy. His problems certainly were not much compared to DS2. During my second pregnancy I consumed lots od dairy, and he is much worse. Please let me know the outcome of your visit.

Hi mummyjac

Well, I saw my DD's paed GI today and asked about eliminating dairy / soy during pregnancy and he said if you exclude it from your diet 24-48 hrs before giving birth there would be no traces of it in your milk once it comes in. There's no need to exclude it earlier since your body doesn't produce breastmilk until after the baby is born.

Interestingly, he said that babies of mums who had terrible heartburn during pregnancy (I lived on Zantac both pregnancies) and used lots of antacids generally have babies with high acid production and reflux, so he said to try and keep a healthy bowel during pregnancy which will minimise the pregnancy heartburn and reduce the amount of antacids you need to take.
