Little Gorilla

I'm not going to go into the whole story of why....but it is possible that my nephew may be coming to live with us because his parents basically can't get their act together (drugs, drinking, violence, foul language etc etc...i could go on forever).
Anyway the parents have broken up and its come down to the fact that neither can be bothered to be a parent to their child anymore. Their little boy just needs a safe, loving, non-threatening and structured enviroment to grow up in.
Anyone else had a niece or nephew come and live with them indefinitely? How did you make the transition a smooth one. My nephew is 6 and my son is 19 months...so I want to make the transition easy for both of them.
This is a huge responsibility for me and DP to take on - especially as we want to try for #2 next year.
