My 4 month old dd is in a horrible routine, she had colic and screamed upto late at night and the only thing that stopped her was if I made her nap alot through the day (I was following her cues, waiting for her to whinge etc) so looking back on it, it probably wasn't colic, she was probably overtired everynight.

This is her routine roughly
6 am wakeup
bottle, bum, play
nap at 7.10 am
awake at 8 am
bottle, bum, play
nap at around 9.10 again
bottle bum play
nap at 10 am

etc, this goes on all day so she's being put to bed roughly 1 hour and 10 minutes after being awake, otherwise she gets cranky & crys all night for upto a week afterwards.

It works out to be about 6 naps a day & about 40 mins in length.

I don't wanna cut down her sleep cause it's obvious she needs it but I was thinking she could have x3 naps per day, but naps that go longer then one sleep cycle

So just wanting any advice on making the change & what your bubs routine is like at this age

Thanks....can't wait to have a life again!

Sorry hun don't really have any advice as my DD is the same. She only sleeps 40 mins and is awake for up to 2.5 hours at a time. She's 4 months and still doesn't have a routine. Especially now she's teething. I do find that she tends to sleep longer if she's sleeping in my arms.

My DS is the same age and is on a great routine, so I can try help. However I think I just completely lucked out with an awesome sleeper.

He wakes up at 6.30 for a feed, I treat is like a night feed, and goes straight back to sleep until 8.30. We start our day then. He is up until 10, or 10.30 at the latest. He goes in between spending an hour and a half to two hours up.

I give him a 5 min breast feed right before a nap, because other wise he goes to long between feeds and it helps him sleep.

So at say, 10.30am, quick feed and nappy change, then wraped, given dummy and bed. He sleeps anywhere from 1 and a half to 2 hours. However if he wakes before 1 and a half hours I give himhis dummy to keep him asleep. Even if he looks wide awake, usually after 40mins sleep only, I give him dummy and walk right out the room. If he spits in or cries more than 3 times I get him up. But he never really does that.

Then up aat 12.30pm back down at 2.30pm. He generally has two sleeps a day, sometimes 3. I feed him when he first wakes up from a nap and then as I said, a really quick feed before a nap. Even though its 2 hourly, its the only thing that keeps him asleep longer than a cat nap and he is feral if he only cat naps.

He goes down for the night after his bath and last feed at about 8, 8.30pm. wakes at 6.am. We haven't heard him in the night since he was 3 weeks old.

He HAS to be wrapped, and have the dummy to self settle. However spits it out as soon as he is asleep. Which usually doesn't matter.
