I have a two and a half year old with a milk allergy and i am worried about his calcium intake. He won't have tablets, and drinks calcium enriched soy milk once in a blue moon. He does eat lots of dark leafy veggies, and sesame seeds (hidden in his mash) but i was wondering if you could suggest anything for us?
Thanx in advance

You would know if it was an allergy, baby would be vomiting all the milk up and having bad stomach cramps and diahrreoa all the time not just once in a while. Both my girls are/were lactose intolerant (DD1 grew out of it) and both had these symptoms. You would have picked it up alot earlier if it was a real allergy. maybe see your Dr.

As for the original post.... I can only suggest adding milk to his foods so he doesn't know it's there, like mashed veg, home made white sauce with soy milk. Have you tried the milk warm/cold/ with a bit of brown sugar for sweetness??? Maybe you could crush up the calcim tablets and put it in his food???
Hope this helps.

Dear Georgie’smama,

It would be best that you speak with a paediatric dietitian regarding your son’s calcium intake and requirements – particularly as this is likely to be an ongoing dietary issue for your son. In the meantime, don’t expect that a toddler or young child will readily take whole tablets of any kind, but you may be able to crush them up and disguise them in other foods. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before doing this though, as the absorption of some tablets can be affected if they are crushed or altered.
