View Full Version : Christmas gifts for spoilt teenagers

I hate getting Christmas presents for my nieces and nephews in-law. They are all completely spoilt, need nothing and never appreciate what they get given, even if it's money. There are two boys aged 16, a boy and a girl aged 14, a girl aged 13 and a girl aged 11.

The littlest girl isn't so bad. But the others actually turn to their parents and complain if they don't like what they get. Sometimes they don't even read the card and when you ask them later who gave them a particular present, they just shrug.

Anyway, I hate getting present for them because I know they will never appreciate what they get, and I kind of think, why am I wasting my money on them for things they don't need or even care about, instead of giving it to more needy children in the world!
I'd love to give them goats or Oxfam gifts, but they are all very mainstream and would think its lame.

So, every year I just give them money, and every year I hate giving it, and never even know, in the chaos of Christmas, if they even receive it. And every November I think I'm going to do something different, and then never think of anything and get to the weekend before Christmas and end up putting money in a card.

Do you think you I should just get over it, as they are not my kids, and it's not my job to judge how spoilt they are, or is there an alternative out there to just handing out money to ungrateful teenagers???

Gift vouchers - then you have a little discretion about where it is spent.

For the girls, a voucher for a hairdressers could be a good option.

Another idea is experience gifts - a day of horseriding for example.

a movie ticket each and a gift card. sorry unsure how much money you put in cards but if its like $30, put 20 on the gift card and the oter 10 to buy the movie ticket.
