View Full Version : Steralising bottles
Hi all,
I am currently breast feeding my 7mth old son and 2 days ago introduced him to one bottle of formula a day for various reasons.
My question is: do I need to steralise his bottles and teets etc? Or is he old enough that I can just wash them?
Unsure???
Thanks heaps :D

I had my boy on the bottle from 6 wks,so i sterilised up until 6months. However because you're only just starting out, i would for the first couple of weeks at least just to make sure you he doesn't get any little bugs. Use a microwave steriliser, they're so much easier!!!

My son is 7 months and has been on bottles for 2 months now. I still sterilise as I'd hate him to pick something up off the bottle. In my mind I know I am probably wasting my time as everything he can get his hands on he sucks - and he's at day care as well. But it makes me feel better. At some stage I will stop just not sure when yet ...
I have always steraslized until 12 mths just to be on the safe side

At my child care centre we would sterilze them up to the age of 12mths. Microwave ones can be expensive, I use to just boil them up in a large saucepan for about 5mins. Much cheaper and just dry them on a paper towel or on the drying rack.

My daughter is 10 months old and I still sterilise her bottles and teats etc. I will do so until she is 12 months old. I just use a microwave steriliser, so much cheaper that an electric one and some of them also come with bottles too.
