Anyone who has tried their kids on the failsafe diet...
Did anyone have a negative response to the diet?
DS2 has been on it (the whole family really but I'm not strict with DS1 or hubby and myself) for about 2 months now and although I found an improvement in his eczema to start with, it seems to be coming back now... and also, he has turned into a horror child. The tantrums are unbelievable.
I don't know if it's just a coincidence that it's happened around the same time as the diet and it's just normal child behaviour or what. But I sometime just don't recognise this child! He used to be so placid and easy to deal with.
He is definitely intolerant to egg and I have had him gluten free for about 3 weeks now too. But the eczema is not easing which makes me think it's environmental or maybe dairy (that was next on the list to eliminate)
Would love to hear any thoughts...

It was the opposite for us - DS1's behaviour improved so much (which was the main reason we tried it). I don't recognise him now when he has 'bad' foods. His major issues are with salycilates and preservatives. sorry for short reply 2 babies climbing on me...

I'm not 100% strict with it due too health problems in our household but I have found that when we are dull strict behavior is pretty good but when we don't do it 110% all the time their behavior is horrible .. :|

Thanks for the replies...
Maybe it is just coincidental and he has just reached the terrible twos late. :freakingout:
His nutritionist has recommended a zinc supplement as he is zinc deficient but jsut realised it is raspberry flavoured so obviously he hasn't been 100% failsafe. I wonder if I should continue with the supplement. although his tantrums started before the supplement so that's not the cause...

Ahhh, I remember mine hitting 'the terrible 2's' shortly before their 2nd birthday!! Which means it may be just around the corner for DS2 & DD2 - EEK!!
If you are noticing worse behaviour - 1-2-3 Magic might be worth a try? It reccomends from 2+ I think, but has worked really well on DS1. My bubs are 19months and not ready to understand something like that yet, but I will be using it once they get a bit older.

Just a theory - you know how when you cut it out they actually in a way become more sensitive to it as it's not built up in their body (eg similar to how people who drink a lot of caffiene wont notice much effect when they have it, but non-caffiene drinkers when they have it will really notice the effects)? Well could it be that, that his behaviour is horrible when there is a slip up and he has something not on the diet?
Otherwise not sure! Good luck!

I used some raspberry flavoured vitamin pills and they were bad news, really bad news.
Have you tried dairy free? I am coming to the conclusion its my 3.5yo's major source of behavioural issues. However, he did have a very obvious milk/ soy intolerance as a baby so it makes sense.
PS: Don't you hate people's reaction to failsafe! Honestly, all my friends/ family think I am nuts I am sure.

Lots of people think we are crazy too, esp with DS's issues being salicylates, so I barely give him fruits!!! But those that spend time with us realise what a difference it makes, and cannot believe how different he is, just by avoiding certain foods.
