My soon to be 4 yr old son has lost 600grams in the past 3 months. He was born 9 weeks early, had issues gaining weight from birth then from 14 - 24 months gained only 190grams. From 2 yrs - 3.5 yrs he gained 4kg and then from 3y6m to 3y9m lost 600grams, hes now 13.5kg
Any suggestions on how to help him gain? Hes getting weighed again in a fortnight and if no improvement we're back for an early revision with his paed but in the mean time any suggestions would be great thanks :)

Dear Charmzy,
Your little boy does seem to be at the low end of the scale for the ‘typical’ weight for his age. It sounds like a very good idea that you are taking him for health check-ups and a review with your paediatrician, particularly if he is losing weight and has a history of poor growth.
In preparation for these visits, it would be useful to take a 3-day diary of the foods that your son is eating – including the types and amounts for all meals, snacks and drinks. It can be very hard to remember this sort of information on the spot, and then it isn’t always accurate. An objective record of his diet will help your doctor to consider your son’s growth in light of his intake and to make appropriate recommendations.
Unless you have medical advice otherwise, ensure your little boy is taking full-fat foods and dairy products (not low-fat or fat free varieties), and try ‘calorie loading’ his food by mixing in things like cream and butter.
