Hey!!...
A little while ago at bunnings they had "mushroom boxes" there for sale!.. I think they were about $20 to get you set up and started!!
I really wanted one, i LOVE mushrooms, but DP hates them. So i couldnt see it being worth it. haha.

Hey laa :) i havent heard about the mushroom boxes. we dont have a bunnings near us. do you think mitre 10 would have them?
i got a mushroom box from kmart garden a few years back, not sure if they still have them. Maybe a garden centre might have them.
Haha I was going to start a thread on this! I'm going to get a box to grow field mushrooms, and I don't want to be buying the kit every year, so I'm going to try to keep the spawn going year after year, apparently there are instructions in the box, so I've been told! It's not hard, I've done it before, but just not kept it going.
Another method I am going to try is to use Oak logs to grow mushrooms on, you get a log, drill holes in it, then insert dowels with mushroom spawn in them, then seal all the holes and the ends of the log with wax, and after a year the mushrooms will start fruiting. The logs go for 4 or 5 years I think. You can grow oyster and $hitake mushrooms like this.

I bought a box from Bunnings a few months ago and followed the instructions but nothing has happened but it being infested with tiny bugs :(
I have no idea what is wrong but Bunnings have told me they can't help and to just call the manufacturer or buy another box :impatient:

We had a mushroom box too when we got too many I just sliced them up and put them in the freezer for add to casseroles
If you have a mushroom farm near you that sells bags of their spent compost, I have read loads about people who go and buy those.... put them in a dark, damp place and get anything up to 1kg of mushrooms from them!!
They cost about 50c if you go pick them up - they still have spores but are no longer producing commercially viable quantities.
I buy it to put through my heavy clay soil and last time I left the bags in my lean to for a few days I did indeed get a few mushrooms popping up.
I'd love to try it properly sometime as I love mushrooms!
