hi there,
my previously fully bf is now on straight neocate and solids. she has been on neocate for almost 2 wks.
she is porking up now.. finally..
but how do you know how much and how often to feed her? sorry, i am new to the bottle feeding thing.
i thought it should be 4 hourly, but she is wanting to be fed after 3 hrs at night and waking earlier in the morning..
i hear neocate is lighter than normal cows milk formula- would that be why it doesn't seem to sustain her that long at night?
well tis answered my question in your other thread lol
As you lil one is FTT they would be no limitations on how much and how often, So every three hours would be perfectly fine, Even how ever often she wants to feed, If she is hungry and willing to take it i would be giving it to her for sure.
Neocate is easier to digest then nornal formula so it wil go through the digestive system quicker, ( about the same as breast milk with digestion ).
How many months is your lil girl and what is her weight? with FTT bubs they like for them to get about 1000 cal a day depending on there weight etc, Not sure how young you lil one is so might be diferent. The general guide is 100mls to 150 per kilo at over 6 months depending on there needs it can change, and sometimes they wil fortify the feeds as well, I know when DD was on neocate ( until we realised she was intolerant to it grrr) she was to aim for 35ml an hour 24 hours a day which was 840 but she was very very small, I know they always wanted her on more but at that time we couldnt get her on any more

Neocate is that broken down that it is easily digested by the body. I would just go by what she wants when it comes to how often to feed her and how much.

I found 3hrly was the norm when both of mine started on neocate. They eventually went to 3.5-4hrly. Good Luck!

thanks
she is 7 mths and within first 48hrs she gained massive amts when we switched.. i would guess about 6plus kg now.. haven't had her weighed yet this week..
i suppose i just let her lead with how much she wants each feed..
she is having some solids still but have to be careful because even slight constipation causes massive reflux
