View Full Version : ABA Members?
Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if I could get some feedback from those who are ABA subscribers.
I am no longer breastfeeding, but after reading and replying to a few recent threads, I have come to realise that the awareness about the benefits of b'feeding amongst the general public (and future mums), really needs to be hightened. On top of this, I feel like the support networks for b'feeders and those mums who want to b'feed, aren't made known to alot of new mums.
So instead of sitting here at my computer whinging about it, I thought I would put some support towards the cause. I am contemplating subscribing. But before I part with some of the miniscule (sp) amount of savings we do have, I wanted to get some feedback from other subscribers.
Any comments are much appreciated.
I was a member for 5 years, and was quite involved on a local level. You will be welcomed with open arms and I am sure will be able to make a great contribution on whatever level you wish to be involved. I found that I got more out of it than I put in!
I say go for it!
All the best

I have been involved in ABA on and off over the years, like any organisation there are different subgroups (the types of people involved range from the very mainstream to the alternative its a good mix), I'm sure you'll find your niche.
i think it's a great idea.:yelclap: . i love subscribing to the ABA and knowing that my dollars are going to a good cause. they gave me a lot of help to bresatfeed my dd. now is a great time to subscribe as they are giving away a great book on breastfeeding, even if you don't need it, it would make a great pressie for a pregnant friend.
so worth it.
I kept up my subscription for about 4 years although I was only actually BFing for about 1 year in total. I do enjoy the magazine and there's always a local group that you can be involved in too.
I think it worthwhile - take it up for a year and then see what you think.
Cheers

I am a new member after only having the babe seven months ago, and subscribed 'just in case'. I have not needed the counselling service thus far but have found the information available great and the book I received for joining has been invaluable. It has been passed onto my SIL and she loves it (with a new bub and being unable to bf last baby) and has found the services great as well.
I think that I will continue to subscribe post bf as it is a wonderful resource for all mums.
Great that you wish to join and I too agree with the posts above, you will find your niche in there and it will be welcome with open arms from all involved.
Thanks for your replies ladies. I have decided I am going to join. Intially for 1 year, with an outlook for longer.
Will I still be welcome at the meetings even though I am no longer b'feeding?
I plan to b'feed my next child, but that won't be for a few years.

I am a recent ABA subscriber and have found them wonderful so far. Very supportive and its nice to know you are part of this lovely BF community.
You can become very involved and actually become a counsellor after doing a course. The info is on their website.

Yes you can still go to meetings I think as any member is welcome, whether or not they are still breastfeeding. There you will be able to provide experience and support for newly feeding mums!
I've bottle fed a baby at an ABA meeting - nary a raised eyebrow. In my experience, you are certainly welcome even if you are no longer BFing.
Cheers

Yeah! ABA are great! I'm a subscriber and I say the more the merrier. There's always plenty to be done in terms of supporting mums to bf, and promoting bf in society in general. ABA have people called Community Educators - that's something I'd like to do one day, maybe you'd be interested too? Should be more info on their website. They have a great forum too ;)
