DD had an allergy test done at 6m.o, she reacted to cows milk, almonds and eggs. So she's on neocate to help with her eczema.
I used to give her toast and vegemite before we knew what her allergies were but because her eczema was soo bad I probably couldnt define a new rash to an old one.
DD is 9m.o now and I just gave her toast with vegemite and she started to scratch on the side of her face, 10min after finishing het toast (1 slice) she had a 5x5cm red patch with what looks like white little mozzie bites on the red patch. And she started scratching insanely crazy again :(
But then 15'mins later it's complete cleared up?!?!?
Note: this happened a week ago but rash was around her left eye then gone after 10mins.... After vegemite toast aswell.

are you putting butter or margarie on the toast??
There could be cows milk or milk powder in the bread??
Or it could be the vegemite??

My ds is allergic to dairy and soy. He still has vegimite toast but with nuttalex instead of butter... It's a dairy soy free alternative and tastes great. The whole family eats it now instead... We also get a dairy free bread from our local bakery. Wholemeal usually doesn't have dairy
Yes, it sounds like an allergic reaction to me - it sounds just like hives. It sounds like a mild reaction though.
Yep, my 2.5yr old has just only been able to start eating vegemite recently without getting a rash. She has recently outgrown her allergies to cows milk and eggs, but still has nut allergies.
She was ok with promite though, so that's what she used to always have in her toast. I suspect it's more the yeast in the vegemite that causes the rash than anything else.

Bella, W is the same with a lot of foods.
Check the ingredients of everything your using. There is alot of hidden ingredients that they can't eat.
Like Kobismum, we use Nuttalex and now just forgot about the vegemite. We use avocado and some deli meats. Be sure to ask what's in the deli meats because majority of them have milk/dairy in them.
We get ham off the bone as it's one of the only that don't.
Make sure the bread is ok as well. It's amazing what is in bread these days. We now have to buy ours from the bakery & just can't get anything from woolies.

Which bread do you get?
I'm too scared to try her on any margarine yet
If she's got a cow milk allergy she can't have soy either right?

I've had alot of conflicting advice on soy, but her dietitian has her off soy as well. I know all the woolies bread's have soy flour in them so we stay clear of them now as well.
We go to baker's delight and get bread from them. Ask them what they use and explain what she can't have. I find because they actually bake their bread there they know exactly what's going on and they are super helpful.
Allergies are the pits. I think unless you have an allergy kid, you don't actually realise how hard it can be. :cuddle:
It's also really hit and miss as well. I've gotten use to reading labels on everything and constantly asking.
Be sure as well, not only to stay away from milk but also the "other milks" like malodextrion etc...

I asked bakers delight if their plain bread was nut free A is allergic to almonds and I was told there could be traces as it's prepared on the same table as other breads. Hrmmmm! :(
Yes it's so difficult :( let's hope W and A outgrow them...

Hmmm....that's no good!
Maybe make your own? We're going to start doing it after Christmas because we go through so much bread in this family.
Making bread is really easy. Don't even have to have a bread maker and it's cheaper than buying it at the shops.
I wish W would grow out of her allergies - doesn't look like she will though. :freakingout:

This here (http://www.essortment.com/all/bakingbreadrec_omj.htm) is the recipe I follow.
350 f equates to 180 degrees in a normal oven.
It's a really well detailed recipe and works really well.
HTH :)

Sorry double post!
Thanks heaps :)
If you search on here there are many threads with great dairy & soy free recipes. It is how I found Bubhub cause my DD has allergies.
Be careful with Bakers Delight because while they say they have no Soy this can be false as they use 'vegetable oils' etc that all fall under these generic headings which usually means Soy is lurking somewhere.
I went through all of this & found it so frustrating especially when a lot including dieticians say X Y and Z are OK when they aren't because there are still traces due to the above & when you have a child that is reactive then even that will set them off.
Making your own is your best bet, which can be hard work but you can make a routine of it.
