View Full Version : Glengarry Private Hospital
Hi ladies, I know it's ages away before I'll need to go there, but I was wondering if anyone had their bubs at Glengarry Private Hospital? My Ob is Dr Gan and cos I've got Private Health Insurance I thought I may as well use it and go to Glengarry because it's near home. Any info would be appreciated.

I haven't been to Glengarry myself, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. Also, my Auntie gave birth there, and she was seriously considering coming down to Perth for her last (she lives in Northam) because it was so good. She ended up having to go to KEMH, but that's a different kettle of fish!@ LOL
Maybe give the hosp a buzz and see if they do walkthroughs of the maternity ward? that may help you with your decision.
CantWait... I had DD at Glengarry (Aug 2003) and will be having #2 there in Jan.
It is a great little hospital, the midwives are all very nice an very helpful. Put your name down for one of the ex-large suites the moment you go into labour. Last time I missed out on one of these because the maternity ward was full to overflowing. Even so, the standard rooms are great.
The hosp doen't have a kiosk (sp?), so either pack goodies for yourself, or have some ready at home for DH/DP to bring in once bub has arrived.
If you're a first time mum, go to their after birth morning tea. You get to catch up with mum's who had bub at the same time as you and talk through your experiences. It's also a good excuse for getting out and showing off bub (the midwives love it!).
And if it's close to home, it's even better. We live in Greenwood, so DH was only 10 minutes from home, and you don't have to pay for parking (SJOG in subi is paid parking now where it used to be free).
PM me if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.
Thanks heaps ladies! It sounds like a great hospital. This is our first so I want to have all that side of things organised so I can enjoy my pregnancy not worrying about where I am going to go, and I am so happy Glengarry is a good choice!
thanks again
both my aunties have had a total of 6 kids there and would not go any where else !!! They love everyone there.. Especially Dr Tai ?? I think he was on leave though... My aunty had a baby there a month ago .. not sure who delivered i will ask her though and get back to you.
i personally havent been to glengarry, but my mum has. when she had me and my brother she went to attadale hosp which bak then was owned by same people then she moved to wanneroo so glengarry was closer. she went on to hav her next 11 (no u r reading right...my mum is well known there.) kids at glengarry. she loves the service she gets there. they even hav bigger beds in some of the rooms if u want dp to stay the night (u pre arrange/request for the bigger room if u want one). my mum has been living in country (gingin and now muchea) for the past 6yrs and for her last 2 kids she made the travel there (thats how much she enjoys their hosp), granted they were both c/s so she was pre booked so didnt hav to make the mad labour dash.
goodluck with whatever u decide and with the remainder of your pregnancy and for the birth.

Personally, I wouldn't go back there, had my DD there, the rooms are tiny and the staff are usually run off their feet.

Have you tried Katherine Harris? She delivered both my DD's at Glengarry.

Hi Duncraigmum,
Try Dr Cliffe Neppe - although I'm only 16 weeks he's been fantastic so far, together with midwife Karen and receptionist Vonnie - they seem like a really good team. He's just gone into private practice (although is in the 1'000's for numbers of babies delivered) and has new rooms just down the road from Glengarry. Google him too.
My GP's wife is in charge at Glengarry and apparently they were stoked that he joined them, my GP even said "you will have Dr Neppe, OK?".
Hope this helps, and good luck.

I had our 1st bub there.....But never got to have one of the larger modern rooms.......it was a bit of a pain because the room i did get was so small only a couple of people could fit in there at a time.....the sink to wash your hands was out near the bed not in the toilet.......little things like that.....It was a pain.....the nurses were lovely just not the room......My next 2 kiddies and this little one due in May were all at Joondalup Private.....and they are great....lovely nurses and a great big room for bubs and me....and for when the kiddies come to visit....it's not squashy at all!....
I had my baby there last year. I loved it. We did have a small room initially (they are the ones with the automatic beds-I had a C-Section so needed that at first). I was offered a bigger room as soon as they had one available.
Would happily deliver there again should the occasion arise.
Also loved my OB- Dr Fred Busch.

While I love the atmosphere of Glengarry hospital, unfortunately I can't recommend Katherine Harris to anyone. While she seemed lovely during the antenatal appointments, when it came to the day of my scheduled induction, she had decided to leave her offices early, and when she did arrive at the hospital (just in time to stitch me up) she tried to blame the midwives for not being called in time for the delivery. I can't fault the midwives though, they were lovely.
