Cleaning toys

I have the enjoyable task of cleaning all DD's soft toys tomorrow . Most of them state 'surface wash'. Is there an easier way?

Please let me know if you have any tricks up your sleeve with washing them in the machine. Also, if I do machine wash them, with this damage the rattles that some of them have.

ive machiene washed some of dd's toys with rattles and I have found that they are no different after the wash :D
