Hi all,

I am a Catholic (not really practising I guess) and my husband is atheist, we got married in a civil ceremony. Anyway I want to have DD christened in a catholic church, DH is fine with that. But he will not go to classes or anything. Does anyone know if you have to do all that? And if not, does anyone know of any churches in Melbourne where you don't have to?

Thanks!

It really depends on the parish Priest. I know that our parish organised a meeting with the other parents of babies being Baptised but my best friend's parish did not, it was simply call the church secretary, book the date and arrive on the day.
The meeting we went to wasn't a 'class' as such...it's just basically a chance for Father to meet everyone, the Baptism co-ordinator goes through the actual ceremony and it's a chance to dob in relatives to do readings on the day! ;)

I used to run classes (not all parishes have them - our current one doesn't) and you only have to have one parent there usually (it was only 1 evening for less than an hour).

Check with your local priest (church closest will be easiest to get to / home from on Christening day !) - most priests won't knock you back if you can't do the class.

Hope it goes well.
