Hi there,

My two and a half daughter has had no nappy throughout the day, including her afternoon nap, for three weeks now. How long should I wait before I dont use a nappy for her night time sleep? Her nappies aren't soaked or anything when I take her nappy off the following morning but I am a bit nervous. As soon as she wakes in the morning she tells me she needs to do a wee and seems to be a lot more there than the daily ones. Should I just go for it and make sure there is a protector on her bed and if it she wees then she is not ready or what??

Any input would be great.

#1 (girl) was dry at night for a week when we stopped using a doubl cloth nappy on her. I started keeping her potty at my bedside overnight, and she would come in, and I would remove the nappy, and get her on the potty before I was even out of bed.

After two weeks dry at night, we gave up on the nappy, put a good protector on the bed, and only had a handful of wet beds over a long period of time. She was so easy to TT - no more than 7 weeks from nappies during the day, to dry at night with no nappy.

#2 (girl) was a whole other story. We persisted with nappies at night till well after her 3rd birthday. At about age 3.5, she insisted that she lose the night time pull up, well before she was really ready for it, and then the trouble started - almost nightly wet beds for weeks at a time. It's really only been in the last 6-8 months that she has been reliably dry at night - we could have kept her in a disposable till after her 4th birthday.

My advice is wait till she has been try at night for a week or two. She also has to be in a bed, with night lights in the hallway to allow easy toilet visits, because little bladders can't wait for mum or dad to wake up at night. Buy fully washable /dryable blankets, like the cotton ones, so you can wash and dry them easily if necessary, and keep a full change of her bed linen in her room so you can find everything in the dead of night while half asleep with minimal fuss if there is an accident.

Thanks for your advice. It's been nearly a week and I notice the nappies aren't wet in the morning. I will wait one more week and then dive in the deep end. I always make sure she does a wee before she goes to bed and in the morning she asks to go straight away. Also, at night when I go to put the nappy on her she says she doesn't want one and I panic a bit and then she changes her mind and I feel relief. The signs tell me that I think she will be fine but sometimes I think it's more of am I ready

I'll keep you informed. Thanks once again.xx
