Hi

I'm almost 26 weeks and am finding it very hard to find time to eat properly during the day - we've just moved across the country and I have both kids at home full time and it's very full on at the moment. My appetite is also very low so I'm just not eating enough.

I was thinking of supplementing my diet with a protein shake but wasn't sure if it is safe during pregnancy - my limited research goes both ways - mainly that you need to be careful you're not doubling up on any vitamins you might be taking otherwise.

I just wondered whether any other pregnant women have looked into this and found a "safe" one they could recommend.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I realise that this is in the IVF section, but since I read I couldnt not answer.

When I was pregnant I was actually advised by my OB and another specialist to bulk up my diet with Sustagen. I was quite sick from morning sickness, and living on limited calories (I couldnt keep anything down). I would think that as long as you are not using them as a meal replacement, that it would be ok.

Maybe ring the maternity hospital you're booked into, or even talk to your local pharmacist and see what they say.

Yeah sustagen is probably a good option. If you're concerned talk to your doc or even ask to see a dietitian to discuss your options.

Sonja - I got told no to protein shakes like celebrity slim, tony ferguson, the ones the weight lifters use.

But that sustagen is ok.
