We are having 60 - 70 people at our smallish house (WHAT WAS I THINKING!) for an engagement / baby shower thing. Now it's not until Feb but with Christmas and everything else going on, I don't want to leave it til the last minute to start thinking about and budgeting for!

It's FROM 5pm and we (stupidly) said we will be providing food, beer, bubbles and soft drink. Should have said BYO drinks to save us some money but too late now! Although when people ask if they can bring anything we do say drinks!

Originally I was thinking about having some platters (antipasto and dips, cheese etc) out around 5 - 6 and then bringing out some finger food around 6 - 7 (homemade sausage rolls, chicken pastries and quiches precooked and reheated in pie warmer) and doing a bbq tea (meats and salads) around 8 - 9.

But now I'm wondering if that's too much?!

We don't have heaps of money to spend, so I'm wondering about cutting out the finger food and just having basic platters on arrival then the bbq tea a bit earlier.

What did you do at your engagement party (or any other party!)??

I am also struggling with quantities and how much to allow per person! I am sure in the end we will have tonnes of food but how do I work that out!!

Thanks in advance!
