DS is almost 2 weeks old and is a brilliant sleeper so far. He goes down about 9pm til 2am then back til 6am. However, lately he has been having problems going down because of terrible wind. He seems to constantly have wind and it hurts him :( I pat his back to burp him, rub his tummy, do bicycle leg motions etc but nothing really seems to help.

I was just after some tips or advice as to how to help him get rid of his wind. Any natural products etc??

Thanks!

It's so hard isn't it? DS was like that too for ages. Would be up literally all night.

It will pass, but in the meantime try block feeding. So, do two feeds in a row from the left, then two feeds in a row from the right. That will give him a lot more of the fatty hind milk and may help settle him. Does he do a lot of frothy poo? That can be a sign of too much foremilk, called lactose overload.

I'm not suggesting that he has this - but my DS did, and when I started block feeding it sorted out his poo (he was doing up to 20 a day) and really helped with his wind, too.

It is sooo frustrating because he is truly just a little angel most of the time but come 2am that wind must just be too much and he can be a bit of a struggle to put down to bed. Last night he was doing little windy giggles and sooks and his eyes were fluttering about naww :bee:.

I'll try that block feeding!! I was worried that maybe I was eating something that was giving him wind so the CHN told me to cut out chocolate...which is like slowly dying hahaha and nope, his poo is nice and mustardy looking, no froth...

My DS is almost 10 wks old and I have had the same problem as you since he was 8 days old. Funnily enough after trying every wind medicine I could find with nothing working, I just came across info today on what Babel mentioned, and that makes sense for me. You can google it to check out the symptons but you can try using Infacol before feeds (hasnt helped with my DS but many swear by it) and there is also Infants Friend or Gripe Water which supposedly help when they have the wind pains - all available from the chemist.

Hope you find something that works. I know how frustrating it is for both you and bub!!

I have the same problem with my 7 week old, it has been happening since she was about 2 weeks. Once 2am hits she will never properly settle again, she lays in her bassinet kicking her legs, grunting and groaning. It is so hard to see them so uncomfortable.

The only thing that has worked for us is Infants Friend, seems to calm her down and help pass the wind.

I am hoping she will grow out of it soon, fingers crossed.
