What do you guys give your little darlings when you're lazy (and DH isn't home) ?

I think I'm on an all-time low this evening (my poor-parent-of-the-year nomination will be in soon). My kids are having frankfurts and scones ! With ice-cream and milo for dessert - how nutritious !

Usually I go for pasta (about the only thing I can cook) or canned soup and bread. Of course, DH usually cooks but he and A are at the footy for the weekend !

Is there anyone else out there as bad as me ?

P.S. I forgot to mention that they haven't even eaten preperly yet - the scones are still cooking - I'm a bad girl !

No we're not lazy, we just give our children variety.

and the longer the 'list' the more 'variety' we have to choose from..

:detective: is that a good thing..or bad thing?? :detective:

That's right - variety's the spice of life !

Actually, I'm revising my opinion of myself. My kids thought my scones (with lavish helpings of jam and cream) rocked !:smiliedance:

I wonder what DH will say ???

my lazy dinner is a pasta bake from a dolmio jar lmao

I always put some chicken in with it too and the kids love it.. but that is DEFINITELY my laziest meal....when DP's at work and sav needs feeding at the same time as dinner and bella is cranky... thats what i quickly chuck in the oven for them...

I usually give Olivia spaghetti or scrambled eggs or breakfast cereal but most of the time I have some frozen portions in the freezer for her (you know chick & vege, meatballs, tuna bake) & then its just me eating a bowl of Special K at 6.00pm

Ciao,
Brooke.

P.S. Just thought I would add that I have made a really quick easy & yummy meal of mini pizza's out of english muffin halves, shredded ham, pinapple & cheese. All of the things that you either have in the fridge, pantry or freezer & even my big kid (DH) enjoyed them

Lazy dinners....hmm....we have a few of those! :o

Sandwiches with fresh fruit and a yoghurt...

mini pizzas with ham and cheese (I buy the Tip Top mini pizza bases and freeze them)

pasta (plain, cause that's how Miss 4 likes it) and meatballs

DS loves Wiggle noodles, or Bob noodles or Dinosaur spaghetti (tin stuff)

for the adults it's latina pasta and garlic bread.

Hmmm.....maybe there are too many lazy dinners in our house!

Tonight DD had, I think, a bowl of weetbix, some breadsticks, 4 big slices of watermelon, and a half cup of the packet rice that I made for myself. I don't recommend the packet rice, it was way too salty really.

Our laziest dinner though was last night - a walk to the fish and chip shop for 1 order to share. & no dishes after, Bliss :)

Other quick meals around here are couscous with cheese - 5 minutes plus however long it takes you to boil the kettle. Add steamed veg and/or bacon, leftover meat, tuna, salmon... whatever your kids like. Scrambled eggs, sandwiches, or pasta & sauce. I try to round it out at least with fruit and/or steamed or raw vegetables - we love raw cucumber and thinly sliced carrots, cut into rounds.

Mine love pasta mixed with cream cheese, or i chop up some onions finely them fry them up and add a tin of crushed tomatoes and some herbs and mix it with pasta for them.
Others we have is a cheaters way of doing tuna mornay, 2 packets of Continental Alfredo pasta and a tin of tuna and some frozen corn. Make the pasta as per packt directions and half way through add tuna and corn and heat through and let thicken. Also potato bake using the packet mix is really quick in the microwave and add cheese at the end and put under the grill to brown.
All are quick and i usually make one of them when i'm having a lazy day.
Bonus is the kids love them all and will eat them better than a meal that has taken me ages to prepare  When the kids were a bit younger weetbix was always a good lazy dinner for them lol

Sometimes I do a heap of cooking on one day and freeze them in mircrowave/freezer safe containers.....I have a deep freezer though so that helps....and then when I'm feeling lazy I can just pull one out, defrost it and dinner is served!!! Yay!!! :smiliedance:

I do spag bols, stews, savoury mince, tuna casserole etc....

No worries. It's not too bad with a few pasta shells stirred through either.

Oh boy, u ladies are making me hungry!! lol.

Lazy dinners for us would be diced beef(pre diced before frozen) and vegies into the crockpot for stew! I chuck the meat in frozen and everything!!

I do the mini pizzas with the pizza bases from the supermarket too.

I make mini chicken parmigianas for the kids(chicken nuggets with pizza sauce and cheese).

And yes I'm guilty of feeding them cereal for dinner too.

Oh another i just remembered that i made last night and it's my ds1's absolute fave lol.

1 can of corned beef
2 Onions sliced
2 cloves garlic minced
2 or 3 potatoes sliced up like chips or alternatively about a quarter of a bag of frozen chips (it's quicker if you just use the chips)

Saute onions and add garlic cook for about 2 mins then add potatoes or frozen chips cook until potatoes are soft.
Add the tin of corned beef and mix in and cook for about 5-8 mins until all mixed through and serve with rice! it takes 10-15 mins tops.

Quick as and my kids and df love it lol.

My DH is out tonight too so DS and I are having 'cheese & potato pie' (ie mashed potato with melted grated cheese on top) and baked beans! Its what my mum used to make for us when we were little too...

Some of our fav lazy meals:
Puff pastry in the sandwich maker with a lightly beaten egg as a filling (comes out like a quiche) or ham and cheese.

Can tuna, spoonful tom paste and a few spoonfuls of sour cream, all cooked/heated and served on rice or pasta.

Chicken breast, sliced horizontally and topped like a pizza-in the oven 30 mins and that's it!

I stock my freezer up for most meals, DD doesnt eat alot we eat and I cant be bothered cooking 3 seperate meals, so in the freezer I always have mince risotto, chicken risotto, zucchini slice. Or DD 2yrs sometimes has a peanut butter sandwich on the occasional night. Fish fingers and chips she doenst think alot of them so its very rare but handy to have in freezer. Tinned spagetti. Cereal. DS 11months usually has something out of freezer or a baby food jar ocassionally.
