Hi everyone!
I'm expecting twins in March, and busily trying to organised. What recommendations/guidance can you offer with regards to respiratory/sound monitors for twins? I'm guessing that they have to be in separate cots? What brands are good? The ones I've seen come with both respiratory and sound, but I'm wondering if I really need both sound monitors, as they will be in the same room.
Would love to hear what has worked best for you.
Thank you in advance!

I've never used & wouldn't, I personlly think they cause more stress than there worth.
Yes will need to be in separate cots. I know some parents have had issues with the frequency settings when both bub have been in the same room.
I got some for the twins - they are sposed to be the best ones on the market. But the ones I had clip to the nappie and sometimes they fall off and then the alarm goes off and I almost died of a heart attack. After that happened about 10 times (over about a 4 month period) I got annoyed and got rid of them.
I think if they are premmie or something that can cause issues with breathing then go for it. But I basically wasted $400 on healthy full term twins. What a waste!

In that case, i would hire a stats monitor from the hospital for each of them.
But if they have been discharged without one, high chance their breathing is fine.

We didnt bother with breathing monitors. My boys shared a cot for the first few months before being separated. I always felt comfortable knowing that they were together and I didnt want the extra stress of any false alarms. Aside from that we were constantly in their room every 2 hours or so as well between the 2 of them! We just bought 1 sound monitor which we will use today

I don't have twins but I have the angelcare movement monitor in my ds's cot. We did our research and found that it had mostly awesome reviews and very few false alarms compared to the tommee tippee one which apparently has a lot of false alarms.
They sell it in a pack with sound and movement and also just movement by itself. We live in a small place and don't need a sound one, so just got the movement. If you didn't want two sound ones you could get one of the double pack and one with just movement. We have never had a false alarm, it has 5 different sensitivity settings (for thinner mattresses eg bassinet, thicker cot mattresses, and obviously baby size is a factor too!).
The only place we could find the pack with just movement was my baby warehouse, but they are around online and some places I have seen have them since he was born. Just look around. Hope this helped.

Maybe respisence? They are attached to the nappy and rest against their belly so pick up the movement of the individual baby. Means you can use them for cosleeping, in the pram or car, with a fan on in the room, etc.
I find with a fan on they don't alarm when you lift the baby out (from experience baby sitting mainly) and I had the tommee tippee one and found it didn't alarm in a still empty room with no fan for up to like 4 minutes.
I took it back.
I wish I'd gotten a respisence and I will with the next baby.
We had a full on sleep apnea monitor for Jasper for a while though because he'd had what the doctors referred to as a 'sleep apnea episode' - I do think it was a very very lucky SIDS near miss :(
So I reckon ill be super cautious (anxious) with our future newborns!

Just wanted to add to this thread that I looked into every breathing monitor on the market with my twins last year (as I had severe sleep apneoa, now known as SIDS near misses as a baby). I also had my now 9yr old tested for SIDS risk as a baby but the twins paediatrician refused to refer me to the sleep study unit with the twins. Also, my sister lost her first born to SIDS many years ago, so for me this was going to be a necessity for peace of mind & ANY sleep.
After much research, I ended up getting onto the SIDSkids website to see if they sold any or recommended any. Basically their website said they do not recommend ANY of the breathing monitors sold in baby stores etc, nor are any of these monitors actually approved by them. The only ones they do approve are the ones supplied by or hired from hospitals.
There is apparently too many 'hit & miss' with the ones sold at the shops, so it's pot luck as to whether they will work or not in a life or death situation.
With all the above info, I simply decided to have my twins in my room for as long as possible sharing a cot & if I woke & they were silent, i would put my hand on their chest to feel it rising & falling.
Good Luck to you in your decision
