Hands In Pants!!!!!

My son is 4 and I realise that he is a boy and therefore likes to play with his penis but this is ridiculous. He has his hands in his pants ALL the time even sleeping. I know it is some kind of comfort thing but really I think it has just become a habit. Has anyone else had this issue? What did you do?

My son is 2½ and always has his hand on it. I said to him the other day "Ben, what are you doing?" to which he responded "Playing with my penis Mummy". I ignore it at the moment but plan to tell him when he's old enough to understand that playing with it is ok, but it's a very personal thing which he should keep to himself. Perhaps suggest that this is the sort of thing he does in his room?

That's just my approach. I don't think it's wrong or dirty and would hate for him to think of it that way.

sorry but this thread made me laugh because my 2 boys do this all the time, they do it for comfort, boredom, whatever! atm the problem im having with cooper (and i used to have the same trouble with thomas) is that he is not yet toilet trained so he pulls his willy out of his nappy to play with it, but when he does a wee of course it goes everywhere, same problem at night he falls asleep with one hand playing with his ear, the other on his willy and of course once hes asleep he wees all over sheets etc!! i generally just ignore him or playfully tell him to 'put it away' if we are out etc, but i have to remind my older son quite a bit that he is to big to be touching it in front of people and that if he wants to he must do it in his room. its funny though, its like hes not even aware that hes hands are down his pants!
dont worry this is so normal, just start gently reminding him that hes a bit big to be doing it when there are other people around and that if he wants to touch it he should do it in his room. dont worry, its healthy :)

thanks for the comments. It's not that i mind him touching it but he doesn't seem to notice he is doing it at all. Today he was fiddling away with it and then comes up and sticks his finger in my milkshake, of course he got the rest of it.

The other day at the shops he had his hands in his pants and i said 'what are you doing?' and Connor goes 'look' and he had 'arranged' himself so that the everything was sort of squished up and coming over the top of his pants. I'm talking the frank and the beans. The ladies at the shops certainly were suprised.

Jacqui and Mel, you both made me laugh, I think my dh thinks im crazy sitting in our study laughing to myself! :) So true Mel, I also know of men who still do the same lol, and Jacqui i imagine that shopping trip was quite embaressing and the milkshake incident a bit infuriating but the way you told it was hilarious :) Sometimes what else can you do but laugh :D (i know what you mean as well about them not even realising what they are doing, i think it must just be instinct to sit/stand and absentmindly play with ones willy!)

The things I have to look forward to! Spencer has discovered his willy too. Now when I take his nappy off, he grabs a big handful - all part of the discovery process, I guess.
