DS had his 10mth check up today & he weighs 11 kilos!!!
I knew he was heavy but wasn't expecting that! At his 8mth check he was 9.7 kilos so as you can see he's put on quite a bit. My mchn said he was perfect & that I shouldn't worry as I have been told by a few people that if a baby weighs 11 - 12 kilos b4 12mths they'll end up obese!! I get so sick of people saying 'gee he likes his food doesn't he!' Babies are supposed to b chubby aren't they??? As the hn said once he is walking he'll slim down heaps & on the days when he is not that keen on eating he'll have heaps stored. I look at ds and think he is so perfect, he very rarely gets sick & with his olive complexion (which he doesn't get from me) he really looks healthy (or am i just biased). Maybe ime being sensitive when people make comments as he has a healthy appetite & rarely refuses anything he is offered. Maybe people should just be careful with how they word things?????

Hey

I really wouldn't stress - if he is happy and healthy and thriving, that is a fabulous thing!!

My son had his 6 month check up just recently and he is already 9kg! I certainly dont' think he is overweight, or fat, or that being a 'chubby bubby' is going to lead to obesity in later life. He is still rather immobile and I'm sure that as he learns to crawl and walk and run and LIVE that his weight will settle according to what HIS body was designed to be.

I definitely think some people can be critical and tactless when commenting on baby's weight. My mum is always saying silly things about Andrew being fat and it drives me bonkers. He is so obviously NOT fat, just a happy chubby boy. Who takes after his mother i might add - I was a chubby baby also. So its also rather genetic I expect. I certainly didn't grow up to be a fat child or fat teenager.

You know your bub is happy and healthy - to heck with all the people who want to pass judgment on it!

Other people can be so insensative. Babies come in all shapes and sizes so try not to worry to much. My sister had a very chubby little bub, I think she was about 12kg at 12 mths, as soon as she started walking she thinned out a lot. Her youngest girl is quite the oppersate, she is 11kg at 18mths.
Don't worry what people say you have a beautiful healthy boy

My daughter was 11kg at 11 months and now at 2 1/2 years she is 14 kgs - so it does slow down, and they don't necessarily end up obese!
Be happy and enjoy your healthy bubba and don't worry about what people say. Better a chubby healthy baby than a skinny sickly one I say!

thanx everyone - i feel heaps better. i really think its the comments about his liking of food that get 2 me & he's by no means the size of the michelan man  then i think i would b worried!!! we really think he looks so healthy - i guess if he was pale & thin then people would say we don't feed him enough?????

Hi

My son was born at 5.94kg and just seemed to put on weight at an incredible rate. I had people telling me when he was only 8 months old that he would remain fat if I didn't get him out of the pram and walking beside me ... most of them were shocked when they found out he was so young and that I considered them to be rude and ignorant busy-bodies!

He is now 2 ½ and weighs just over 15kg, is 100cm tall and looks like a stringbean! The way they start out has absolutely no bearing whatsover on how they will be in a couple of years time!

Take heart and try to ignore the rude comments - even the well-meaning ones as your little man is a wonderful little guy no matter what they tell you and they don't know him like you do! He is probably going to end up like my son and shock people with his baby photos ... they won't believe it is him!

Hey Carole,
Don't even listen to what people are saying! My DD weighed 4.7kgs at birth, and 10.2kgs at 7 months. I know that it will come off as she starts getting more mobile. Enjoy your chubby bubby! :D
