Hello All

I was just wondering if anyone used a baby capsule and if so which one do you recomend. I am in two minds whether to get one or not.

Thanks for your help

Hmm... yes I use a baby capsule, as per the legislation. I hired one from a baby products hiring place. It's a safe n sound brand.

I was going to hire a capsule but ended up not, one less job to do was the only real reason. They are great for getting bubs out the car without waking them.
We have a reversible car seat instead, suitable for newborns-18 kilos. The sales lady pointed out that sometimes a baby is too big for the capsule but not big enough to sit up in a car seat.

I used a capsule for my first born but only until he was 6wks old (by which time he had spent 3wks in hospital). He was 5kg at birth and ended up being far too havy to carry around. So I changed over to a reversible car seat and it was a lot better than the capsule.

We have two cars so we have hired a Safe and Sound capsule and TWO bases (which stay in the car).

I love the capsule because you can take bubby in it without disturbing him. We have been out for dinner and to a barbecue and this morning I even went to a scrapbooking class and he stayed in there without any problems. If I didn't have it I would have to get him out of the car (and probably wake him up) and "put" him somewhere (not sure where) when I got where I was going.

We only got a capsule because I was too pregnant and too lazy to go shopping for a car seat and the capsule man came round to our house and fitted the bases into both cars. But its worked out well for us.

(You should only keep them in it for a maximum of two hours, just keep that in mind.)

But they're great. I can't remember how much it cost to hire, sorry.

on the flipside we have a convertible carseat, we can pull Cobey in and out of it without him do much more than a stir.. sometimes I'll put him back down for another hours sleep after taking him out of the seat. :)

The only downfall is that when we're at childless friend's houses there's no where to put him down unless we're inside (when I normally take a thick blanket to lay him on) but normally we take his Bouncer places, or his pram comes out :)

the reason we didn't get a capsule was that it was just extra money. yanno..

hiya, i use/used the safe and sound baby capsule. its been used for all of my children, and family also (getting my moneys worth) its so easy when bubs is sleeping you just take it out and carry them in it, or for shopping it sits nicely in the trolley so i can do my shopping, all the whilst she is sleeping. my girls have always been in them up until 4mths then i changed them to the reversable car seat. if you are buying your own, qld ambos fit them for you. hope this helps:yes:

We hired a capsule from the QLD Ambulance Service for approx $60 for 6 months hire. It's the original Safe'n'Sound model capsule which is rated as the safest way to transport a young baby (heres the link to the 2006 RACV crash test results (http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/resources/file/ebeb6449f3acfab/child%20restraint%20evaluation%20program%20results %20(CREP)%20july%202006.pdf))

DS grew out of the capsule around 5 months and we switched to a Safe'n'Sound Meridian because it can stay rearward facing until 12kgs. It was convenient to be able to lift DS out of the car, capsule and all without waking him but really it wasn't that big a deal and a lot of the time I would just carry him to the car and strap him in as per a normal carseat.

thats great about the two bases....because we have got a reversible car seat for mine and we were going to put the capsule in my hubbys car, but I am thinking I would like a capsule initially too, so we will hire the two bases..thanks for the idea!

I would definitely use a capsule again. I used the Safe n Sound Unity one which also has a pram thingo but I didn't use that bit. It can be rocked when it is out of the car or fixed and has a great sun shade too - good for keeping sleeping bub in the dark while in and out of the car.
