Hey all

I am seriously reconsidering TTC because i am overweight and scared about putting on any extra weight with another pregnancy. I am nearly 90kgs and used to be 68-70kg before i fell pregnant. Has anyone fell pregnant and been overweight, how did you manage? Did you try and eat healthy through the next pregnancy? I think it may be a good idea for me to put off TTC for a few months until i lose some weight.

What do you think?

Hiya!

I've always been overweight, even before being pregnant. Due to hormonal imbalances, we were told by the Dr. that if we decide to conceive, we go and see her and she can try to balance my hormones. So, by the sounds of it, if we wanted to have a baby, we needed help.

Because of wanting to lose weight, hubby & I joined Sureslim (which worked). Although, middle of last year, we couldn't follow the program as we worked 7days/week and by the time we get home, we're just too tired to prepare the meal and succumbed to "picking" whatever is available, or sometimes (worse!!!) get takeaway.

I lost about 15-16kg (and still had to lose more!!). When the program wasn't followed, I gained back 5kg. So I was about 76kg when I started this pregnancy.

When we got back from our holidays this Jan, we were surprised that I was pregnant! We were like "how did that happen when they said that we needed help if we wanted to conceive." Apparently, the weightloss did help balance my hormones.

I understood that I was going to gain weight during pregnancy, but I didn't want to fall into the trap of some women using pregnancy as an excuse to indulge, thus gaining more weight than they should. So, I did some research on the possiblity of not gaining weight (just the necessary baby weight) and I found out that WE CAN DO EXERCISES DURING PREGNANCY! A lot of older people would discourage exercising, but with proper guidance and knowing your limits, it can be done. Not only will it help in labour, it will assist in shedding of the weight gained during pregnancy. I also got into the Sureslim pregnancy program.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to follow the pregnancy program as my bubby seems to hate anything healthy! :banghead: so, only junk food stayed down  But, I lost appetite during the pregnancy that I only ate because I had to eat! I guess that was good, otherwise, I would've indulged in junkfood.

I wasn't able to do much exercise either because I surrendered to the fatigue.

So, when this baby is out, I'm looking forward to popping her in the pram and we'll go for a walk together :smiliedance: And since there'll be no more morning sickness, I'm sure I'll be able to follow the Breasfeeding program of Sureslim.

Exercise + healthy eating is always the basics. It's very easy, it's just the motivation that gets the best of us.

Go for a walk with your child. Play tag or something. Exercise doesn't have to be a routine at the gym :) When to conceive for another baby will depend on when you are ready. If you're ready now, go ahead. You can still eat healthy and exercise (just know your limits) during pregnancy so shedding the weight afterwards is easy. If you think you'll be happier shedding the weight before falling pregnant again, then go for it.

Best of luck!!!

Thanks so much for your advice. I guess either way if i fall pregnant or not, i'm still going to have to exercise and eat healthily to make sure i don't get too heavy.

Thanks very much, you have given me some things to think about, and goodluck with your little bubba once they arrive and with losing weight after the birth :D

I was 95kg when I fell with my first and am still around that weight now and he is 17months old. The main thing is your fitness level. They say an overweight fit person has less chance of serious illness then an underweight unfit person. So don't focus on the scales, just consider if your body could handle being pregnant and then obviously having two children.

Hmmm yeah, that is very scary, wouldn't you have to take oxygen when you're asleep?

hi pierceddoll;
I also have sleep apnea, diagnosed after recurrent miscarriages...which my OB confimed due to lack of oxygen.

anyhoo, I "rent" my CPAP machine from our local hospital ... I would get in touch with the people that performed your sleep test and ask them for your local representative that will be able to point you in the right direction to get the CPAP.

I couldn't live without now...just having it makes me more confidant of achieving pregnancy and staying pregnant

:fingerscrossed: for you
