I have noticed a few threads about families who will struggle at christmas time this year so i thought we could bundle our ideas together to help those lovely mummies, who for whatever reason cant afford store brought gifts for their loved ones.
So heres what i have:
-Some handmade hand puppets, from felt, material etc...
-Some home made jams, lemon butter in jars with a circle of fabric tied by a ribbon over the lid.
-Some home made bath salts, soad, candles, bath bombs.
-A mixed cd/christmas music with a personal recorded message at the beginning.
-A cheap plain t shirt with a xmas applique stiched on.
-Jars of homemade rum balls, white christmas, shortbread etc...maybe with one of the jams.
-Handmade fabric or knitted soft toys.
-A painting (if your artistic not like me lol)
-Homemade jewelry, jewelry box or keyrings.
-A homemade calender for next year.
Team with a handmade gift tag like "Hand/Home Made for you by me, with all of my heart and soul. Merry Christmas"
Often when there is little money
A nice photo printed somewhere like Big W who always have specials on their prices, and framed in cadboard cut out and decorated by your kids. (Or just a nice cheap frame from the shops)
A lovely letter outlining what that person means to you
A coupon book for things like backrubs, hugs or plays in the park :)

Maybe for wrapping paper, cut some foam christmas shapes and get the kids to print butchers paper with paint.

We don't buy for all of DH's siblings but I know they will be getting something for DD do I'm giving them a lil gift from her. I'm getting noodle boxes lined with baking paper and then filling them with rocky road (so easy to make in hot weather!) then attaching a hand made card with a hand and foot print of hers. Very easy and cheap!

That sounds gorgeous :)
What lovely gift ideas :)
I love making handmade, beautiful beaded Christmas decorations. So cheap and fun to make and my SIL, parents and friends have all kept theirs from previous years and they still look lovely on their Xmas trees.
Another idea is DIY gingerbread houses. Aldi has them for $10 each...you get the gingerbread to make into a house, beautiful decorations etc and all that is required is to make the white (snow) icing :) They make wonderful gifts and are lots of fun to make and decorate!

Another for the kids to do, get a box of xmas balls and decorate them with glitter glue, beads etc...im sure they would be treasured on grandmas tree for many years to come :) They could even decorate a gift box, pop in some shredded paper and display them nicely in the box.

* Pots of herbs- grown from your own garden or even bought.
* Homemade pesto
* homemade spice rubs
* scented drawer pouches
* Christmas decorations- made by you (easy ones are to get styrofoam balls and sequins and go around the ball using the sequins fastened by little pins- they look like littl disco balls when finished
* A cheap pot filled with dirt, a packet of seeds and a watering can.
* A jar filled with dry ingredients for making choc-chip cookies, then on a little tag include what fresh ingredients need to be added- e.g eggs, milk, butter and how long to cook for.
* Gingerbread men decorated by your kids

Yay, stealing some of these ideas :santa:
Just wanted to say as well for the home made cards, you can even make your own paper.
Here is how to do it on the cheap...
Go to an op shop and buy an old wodden frame, or a few in different sizes. These will be the size of your paper by the end of it.
Buy a piece of fly wire to fit over the frame. (or when DH gets around to fixing any at your house with holes in them, steal the old fly wire hehe)
Cut the fly wire to fit the frame and nail it on (op shops sometimes have old nails too!! or hardware shops can sometimes have a section for old/used things like this).
Collect all of the old junk mail, newspapers, paper you are finished with and rip it into shreds. You can then blend it in a blender with lots of water, little bits at a time until it becomes mush. If you do not have a blender, you can just leave the shredded paper in water for a few days and it turns itself to mush.
Trasnfer your mushy, paper water to a big enough bucket to put the home made frame into.
Put your frame to the bottom of the tub and sift it upward (like sifting for gold dust hehe). The sediment that you have collected on the fly wire is your paper (no, really)
Get a sheet of felt paper and blot this on top, or just a sponge as I have used this and was fine as long as I was careful. When you have blotted enough moisture out, you can pop your paper out of the frame and onto a flat surface and leave it there to dry. Then you keep going with the same frame over and over.
The paper comes out looking so different to what you would expect and i think it is beautiful. It is all recylced materials and good for the environment :goodvibes:
You can add starch, as this is supposed to make sure the paper doesn't "bleed" when you write on it later. I don't add the starch and I just use pens that do not "bleed" ie NOT felt tip. :)
This is what i was going to do for chrissy but havent decided yet:
FOR THE GIRLS
Home made honey bath oil
You know you’re a mum when….book
Hot cocoa
Brown sugar scrub
FOR BOTH
Rocky road
White Christmas
FOR THE BOYS
All I need to know about life I learned from …….book
Beef jerky
Bourbon balls
Spiced nuts
all are homemade and just wrapped in cellophane and in baskets. I also found some great non bake slices (peppermint slice, marshmallow slice, jelly slice, caramel slice and brownies but u have to bake brownies and bases for the others)
hope that helps others. ill still make the slices with the kids around xmas day as they are just too easy and sound too yummy not to lol
also for my friends that i dont usually buy for chrissy but they did last year i just got a cheap photo frame( $5 from red dot and fits 6 photos) bottle of wine and choccys. its for partnered friends so i had no idea what to get them. But bottles of wine like moscato are as cheap as $8
lol im gunna keep editing this i keep getting ideas. my mum last year got all extended family a cheap towel with their name embroided on it. im doing that for a close friend as she got married so thought putting Mr and Mrs with last name is cute

You could make a Christmas bunting (hanging flag decoration) - see google for tutorials!
I went to a timber joint and got some square shaped piece cut into cubes and then you can paint them up and stencil letters on them - like JOY, PEACE, LOVE or their name.
You could do up a "movie" video of your kids - precious!!

My Aunty once bought a cheap pack of metallic christmas decorations and some glitter glue pens. She brought them along to Christmas lunch and we all spent the day decorating them. Sounds a bit tacky now that I have written that down but it was great fun and we have kept them all with the "family decorations".
Last year I also found a website to make photo magnets - they were about $3 each and everyone loved them

Homemade cookbook - gather up your fave recipes and print them out on nice paper, back it onto cardstock and decorate. Punch holes in each one and tie together with matching ribbon. To make it super personal make a cover that says "Cooking with Sam and Ruby" or whatever your kids names are and put photos of them cooking throughout as well. Pair it with a tea towel and wooden spoon for a lovely, personal gift.
