My son is 8 months next week and solids are becoming more and more important. He is going to be a vegetarian baby but I was bought up a meat eater so have no idea what to feed him so he gets enough iron. I have tried spinach and lentils. Any other ideas?

I would probably go and see a nutritionist as they will probably recommend you giving an iron supplement also but here are some foods high in iron:

Tofu
Black Beans
Chickpeas
Baked Beans
Apricots
Green vegies (brocolli etc)

Iron is more readily absorbed with vitamin c so perhaps you could give an iron rich food followed by say a food high in vitamin c!

Iron fortified cereals, (such as kids weet bix) and the 'junior' milk (which has iron added) are also a great way to boost a kiddies iron intake.

Definately speak with your g.p or a nutritionist about it as they should be able to give you some other ideas.
For us it hasnt been a choice its more that DS has chosen to be.
He wont even eat cheese or eggs.
We just make sure we use the vegies that will boost his system like say meat, eggs or cheese would give him.
So plenty of spinach, broccoli, baked beans are just a few of the things they are definates for us as well as being foods DS will actually eat lol.
If you also do a quick search on google you can find what vegies etc you can use to supplement their diets !
