I feel sick. I've just flipped DD's mattress in her cot, only to discover thick mould growing on the wooden slats where the mattress sits. There is nothing growing on the mattress or anywhere else in her cot, thank goodness. I can't believe I've not seen it before!! I feel terrible and so so sick that she's been sleeping in it!!
So how do I get rid of it? I really can't afford a new cot, and we don't have a porta cot either. Please please help!!

:hugs:
Put the cot outside in the sun and spray with vinegar. Leave vinegar to soak in and help kill the mould then scrub down to remove it. Repeat until clean.
Leave in sun for as long as u can to dry as it also kills mould spores. Once thoroughly dry wipe down with tea tree oil to inhibit future mould growth.
You could also paint the slats with a mould inhibiting paint if the room is often damp.
It's awful isn't it to get mould.happened to DS's nursery too.
I would wipe down the mattress with some canasten laundry rinse which kills mould spores as well just in case.

This happened to me a couple months ago, i threw the whole thing out including the bedding, mattress and cot itself. Although it was a portacot, we put her straight into a big bed with rails on both sides. If you can't afford a new cot maybe try find a second hand one? I would never risk it.. it made me feel sick to my stomach, mould can grow back and it's dangerous to use some chemicals in a child's bed so be careful... like I said I threw the lot of it out..

Thanks for your advice. We've had rotten weather so not been able to leave it out in the sun, but I did wash it all off with vinegar, and and left it to dry thoroughly. I didn't know about tea tree oil, so thanks for that tip. DP will be home alone for 2 weeks tomorrow (we are off to Brisbane) so I'll ask him to do the tea tree oil and give it all a good air out. Thankfully the mattress didn't have any mould on it. It was more on the underside of the cot than right under the mattress, but I'll ask DP to do the canestan laundry rinse while we are away just in case.
Thanks again ladies x
