View Full Version : Pre Menstral spotting who gets it?
Hi. Who else gets pre-menstral spotting? I get about 4 days of brown stuff (TMI) before AF starts and I have been reading that it could be a sign of Endometriosis or Luteal Phase Defect. We are TTC #2 and dont want to waste any time. Is this normal? What happens with you? I am going to docs on Monday.
BTW I hate the TWW.

Hi
Me too - and I always have done. Its such a pain in the butt. I get the brown stuff for about 2/3 days before my period. Makes it really hard to calculate the length of my cycle, and when I ovulate. I am pretty sure its normal but I would be interested to see what your doctor says!! Anyone else help??
Incidentally, it didn't stop me conceiving my son on the first attempt although we have been TTC #2 for 3 cycles with no joy!
i dont get it at all..... but its interesting about the relation between endo and pre-m-spotting.. pretty scary stuff!! talk to your GP and see what they say...
I have had it badly, since the birth of my son, 7-10 days before AF, spotting, it used to drive me insane, dr couldnt figure out what to do, as I cant take hormones, but it meant nothing looking at my fertility, as I fell pg first try.

I have read that it can signal a problem. But, doesn't always mean anything is wrong. Best thing you can do before ttc is see a Dr. for an exam anyway. So I would just schedule an appointment and see what they say. I have spotted before af, but not usually for me. And when I have it is only a day or 2 before I have actual flow.
I always spot 1 to 2 days before and after AF. My GP didn't suggest that it meant something wrong and last month I had u/s and BT and everything was normal. However, I haven't had a BFP yet and am on cycle 10 :detective: .
Thanks for replies. Doc says everything normal after BT and Ultrasound. Spotting could just be old blood or the lining just starting to come away before AF. All a bit vague really. Do the docs ever really know??

Nope...
I've always had this kind of spotting too, usually between 2 and 4 days before AF really starts. It only took a couple of months to conceive my DD and this time i fell pregnant the first month trying.
It's always confused me if i count day 1 of my cycle as the spotting or when AF is bright red (sorry tmi) I'm not 100% sure, but with me i think cycle day 1 is when i start spotting as i believe i conceived both times at about cd 14-15 (counting from 1st day of spotting) ....hope that makes sense

Good to hear your results. If you had a ok BT and ultrasounds then looks like nothing to worry about!!:smiliedance:

I also have/had pre-menstral spotting about 2-3 days before my period and have just gone for a laproscopy. Best to check if any one in your family has a history of endometriosis and speak to your gynae about it.
I always get this - usually first 2 days. These dont really count as cd days - i asked my specialist and he said starts from the first day of 'normal' flow.:)

Hi girls,
I ALWAYS get pre-m spotting for about 2 days. Which makes it really confusing as my luteal phase is quite short anyway (10-12 days) and spotting has started as early as 9 DPO. I saw a male GP this week because I was concerned, but he had never heard of a luteal phase defect! He said because we've only been trying for a couple of months, I should wait until it's been 6 months and go back to see him then. What's the point in this? I am 29 years old and want a baby!! If there is a possible issue, why not deal with it now??
I am waiting for the female GP to come back from leave so I can see her. At what stage do you seek help from a FS? After 6 months? And do you need a referal from a GP?

Well that's good to know. That confirms what I have read before..
Hi Angelgirl
I wouldn't wait any longer than 6 months (I did and now regret it). Just tell your GP you have been trying for 6 months and ask if you can get an ultrasound (to check for cysts and if you get one about CD9-10 they can tell if you have any dominant follicles) and a CD21 blood test (tests your progesterone level). If these are OK, then make a decision to wait and try for a few more months or get a referral from GP for a fertility specialist.
:fingerscrossed: for you

Hi. before I got pregnant this time I was getting up to 5/6 days brown spotting before AF. Pus my luteal phase was between 9/11 days (if I counted from first day of red flow). I was 100% sure I was low progesterone / short luteal phase. So after TTC 4 months I made appointment to see specialist privately (told GP I has issues and wanted referral). The day before my apppointment (and after 6 days spotting) and decided to do a HPT and it was:bfp: . I still think my progesterone was low -as I spotted for 10 days total - but it wasn't serious enough to stop me getting pregnant. I am 9 weeks now and all seems well. I had had 2 scans and all appears 100% normal so far. :fingerscrossed:
You luteal phase is shortist but normal. the 2 days brown spotting is really common and nothing to worry about. Good luck TTC and babydust to you.
