Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what people use to keep their change mats clean. I want to make sure mine is clean and free from nasties but I am also concerned about using chemicals where they come in contact with bubs. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that they use?
Thankyou
Belinda

The change mat i have fits into the change table and I found fabric covers for it at Target.

They are around $8 from memory and I bought 2 as we tend to get bits and pieces everywhere quite frequently! :p

I've always used disposables but bought a dozen cloth nappies. These were great for laying over her change pad and easily sterilised in Napisan. The pad itself I used a disinfectant spray on if she had a big mess. The cloth nappies were great to have to hand for burping, cleaning up vomit, etc.

What about using Milton?

I've got a fabric cover thing and also put a bunny rug on top of that and throw them in the wash every couple of days. She doesn't seem to make a big mess on them but on the odd occassion she's wet through I use Pineocleen bacterial spray to clean the actual plastic mat. You could also just use a baby wipe.

We just use a baby wipe for any nasties, but luckily our bubba doesn't make much of a mess on it very often!

Hi,
I use tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle, approx 4-5 drops to 100mls of water. I find this works great. If it's really messy I give it a scrub with baby soap and hot water, then the usual tea tree solution.

I used warm soapy water, gave it a wipe over and then let it dry naturally.
Didnt use any covers or blankets on top. We had one of those squishy ones from target.

I'd say vinegar would work well, too, and is pretty cheap.

I bought 3 towels (different colour to my regular ones) especially put aside for the change mat & they're big enough to cover it & tuck underneath. Every couple of days or once a week (depends how messy it gets) I just tossed it in the wash with the baby clothes and replaced it with a spare.

If you want to clean your travel mat, I'd also recommend tea tree & water in a spray bottle, or one of the natural products like orange oil spray, or even just a wipe over with some disinfectant on a wet washer.
