Just wondering how many babies who experience reflux and colic are breastfed and how many are bottlefed. Looking forward to the results.

G has severe reflux and colic. He was solely BF until none of the drugs for the reflux would work. He know has 1 full FF at night before he goes to bed, and a top up of 60ml of formula after his morening BF before he goes down for his morning nap. So he is both BF and FF.
I dont think there is any real link between types of feeding and these issues. My paeds doc said that colic is a mysterious illiness and not much is really known about what causes it...

DS is breastfed, and I have suspected he suffers from silent reflux since he was just a fews days old. He's what you would class as a "happy chucker", even now at over 7 months.

DD2 was the same, a happy chucker as a result they didnt really classify it as reflux just an immature throat as such.

when DS was breastfed, never had any signs of colic and never ever threw up at all.
When he went on to formula, about 6months he started getting tummy pains, and reflux as welll as frequent constipation.
In my family (bros and sils)
3 are bottle fed and have colic and reflux
2 are breastfed and one had colic but both had no reflux
Reflux in babies is usually caused by an immaturity in the valve stopping the food coming up. When this doesn't work well it can cause severe heartburn with the constant spew coming up their throat burning them. When comparing how fast the milk leaves their bellies breastmilk moves through more quickly, so generally tends to be better for bubs with reflux.
I think it all just depends on the individual baby. :)

DD had severe reflux, but her's was a "side effect" of her cleft lip. She was bottle fed too, should have been tube fed but I was too stupid to demand it. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

My DS is B/f and does not have either
I ticked both b/f and bottlefed - cause my 2nd little girl has reflux and she had it when breastfed and it just continued same since being bottlefed.......made no difference at all.
